!Hourgame saturday!

It's 2010 and Hourgaming is back! And I am the host this time!

What's an hourgame competition?
The purpose of Hourgame Saturday is, to encourage the amateur game-making, or to put it bluntly, to make you tear your ass off your chair and finally make something.
In this activity your task is to make an AGS game within a strict and a very short deadline (i.e. one hour).

When will it take place?
This hourgame session will take place on Jan 30 2010, Saturday. It will start at 19:00GMT and participants will have an hour to make their games + 15 minutes to beta test / upload (i.e. deadline is 20:15GMT).

How do I participate?
A theme is set by the previous week's winner and by the contest's host in event of his/her absence. It will be annouced on IRC (three simple steps to IRC?) and here.

Additional infos
- While it is not forbidden for the theme-setters to participate in the activity, their games cannot be voted for (to prevent accusations of cheating and to discourage regular participation).
- Instead, theme-setters are encouraged to draw trophies for the contest's winners.
- Making your game from scratch is strongly encouraged, though it is not forbidden to use music or artwork from public sources if you are allowed to (e.g. using public domain music tracks in your game is OK, but not really necessary). It is also possible to use a pre-existent AGS template for your game (e.g. that Verb-Coin GUI template).
- You cannot use the stuff you've made earlier, because this competition is about making something new.

Uploading:
Suggested hosts to upload your entry to are:
- !!! TerranRich's ShutUpload !!!
Also a good choice would be:
- http://www.sendspace.com/ - files expire too soon
- http://www.rapidshare.com/ - sucks balls
- Or your own place.

Voting:
Just tell us your favourite game (and possibly a couple of less favourite ones), and hopefully someone will do the counting.

Important: please post here if you'd like to join but the timeline is not ok for you! Slight changes are always possible!

I wanted to clarify just one thing: is it the strict rule, that only one person should work on the game?
I mean, will the game qualify if e.g. one person makes all the graphics and coding, and the other thinks on the story&puzzles? (in fact, the whole bunch of AGS-related work will be still upon one person)

NsMn

You can try that, Vukul... 1 hour is a VERY little amount of time, you wouldn't have enough time to discuss with your partner anyway.

I might just give this a shot. Tomorrow at 2 for me I think? New york time. Also, to make sure I have this right, the game can be about anything for this first one of the year?

It's second one already, and I will provide a theme.

Upd: the theme is Letter S or "The Things That Begin With An S" - from Sheep to Sky and Satellites.

Post link to your game here when it's done (but better do it before 20:15)

For such a cause... I think, sure.

I'm a little late with this, in fairness I'm sick as hell and had to take a phone call. Hopefully this link works.

It's never late. Now play the games and vote!

I will be back in the morning with a single-filely downloadable package of all the games. And maybe some trophies, who knows. Cheers!

Some more facts about "Mon(e)y Rule$$":
- The music for this game was made by the friend of mine during the same hour.
- The only thing that was made beforehand is the company logo (I think, it's quite clear ;) ).

Domithan said it was unclear, so here goes.
PLAY THE GAMES NOW. AND VOTE FOR THE ONE YOU LIKED MOST

As in, post here saying something like "I liked the game XXX because of YYY." Would be good if you will also explain why other games didn't make it.

Links:
1. http://domithan.com/Downloads/DQ.zip - Domithan - Domithan Quest
2. http://files.mail.ru/D6PB7E - Vukul - Mony Rule$$$
3. http://www.mediafire.com/file/uldunnzmojm/sgame.rar - Obi - The Ess game
4. http://www.mediafire.com/?5zwymfzzjwh - Magma42 - The Letter S (link is broken now but I managed to download it yesterday, see below for a package of all games of this compo)

A file with all the games hopefully in some minutes.
All the games in one convenient package, don't miss this.

The voting will take place till somewhere 'round Tuesday (that's the day that comes after the Monday if you care)

Magma42 - The Letter S
Quite enjoyable thing, which featured the biggest reference to the topic of the competition ;)
I liked the fact, that there were some interactions and item-related puzzles.
And, of course, the Shoe of Mass Destruction made me laugh (especially, the line "That's why there's no more world to the left", not exactly cited).

Obi - The Ess Game
Unfortunately, can't say much about this one apart from that the main character was the letter S itself.
I suppose, though, that the message of the game was carried by the spoken text, but I couldn't make it out... May be, it's just me.

Domithan - Domithan Quest
This one also had item-related puzzles (one, actually)... and some nice humour ("Generic House" was good).
And also there was a disclaimer, with which I do not fully agree :) Believe me, I've seen much worse games than you think yours is ;)

And concluding that... I vote for Magma 42.

The Ess Game - A simply brilliant realizaton of Hegelian philosophy, where you, as a perambulatory phoneme, find yourself locked within the monochromatic room of your own indifference, knowledgable that there is only the emptiness of space behind it, leaving one with nothing but the power of observation, through the window of our soul as it were. And it is through that window that we see our saviour from this self-imposed madness, the eye itself. And as the Eye tells us, it has been waiting for us to make this realization, so that it can take us, here represented by the letter S, on a Magical Journey indeed. However, I have to deduct points for the completely unwarranted anti-semitism.

Mony Rule$$ - A successful indictment of capitalism, where money earned is only consumed by machines, and the only keys to success that it might bring only open bricked over doorways. Only through realization of this can we open our final reserves, take the symbolic power represented therein, and become the Ubermenschen (supermen) that we are meant to be. I must admit that the 20-minute finale which consisted of a reading from Marcel Proust's 'A La Recherche Du Temps Perdu' to have been, perhaps, too musical, I felt my soul enriched by the experience nevertheless.

Domithan Quest - The timeless tale of man's struggle against snake, journeying into the frozen hellscape of Syracuse, the taking of that frozen water which taunts you so, and rolling it into a ball, such that when we return, the prodigal son facing the snakes of our past in the house we see as all too generic, we can realize what a fully futile game the entirety if the endeavor, and indeed life itself, truly represents. Unfortunately, since the game's main character was stolen bodily from my own (through use of a time machine, apparently, as mine was not upladed until 25 inutes after yours) a conflict of interest prohibits me from endorsing it.

Vote goes to Vukul's Money Rule$$. In all realness, better art, more interaction, better part of effort put in that hour. Cheers.

Well, it seems the next hosts of the Hourgame Saturday will be me with Magma42? :)
