Hourgame Saturday

I think the general concensus was that it's OK to move to C&A board. Also I am hosting this compo instead of Bulbapuck because he will be busy this evening having to growl for his band. And I had the second place last time. Yay.

The purpose of Hourgame Saturday is, to encourage the amateur game-making, or to put it bluntly, to make you tear your ass off your chair and finally make something.
In this activity your task is to make an AGS game within a strict and a very short deadline (i.e. one hour).

Timeline:
The event takes place every (surely hope so) Saturday, starting at 7:00 pm GMT, when the theme is revealed on the IRC and in this thread. The participants then have one hour to make their entries and 15 more minutes for uploading. In brief: the deadline for entries is 8:15 pm.
Then the voting takes place till the Monday Morning.

Basic rules:
- Participants can join IRC for rules and updates (how do I join IRC?), but every information will be posted here too, so it's your choice.
- The theme is set by the previous week's winner and by the contest's host in event of his/her absence.
- While it is not forbidden for the theme-setters to participate in the activity, their games cannot be voted for (to prevent accusations of cheating and to discourage regular participation).
- Instead, theme-setters are encouraged to draw trophies for the contest's winners.
- Making your game from scratch is strongly encouraged, though it is not forbidden to use music or artwork from public sources if you are allowed to (e.g. using public domain music tracks in your game is OK, but not really necessary). It is also possible to use a pre-existent AGS template for your game (e.g. that Verb-Coin GUI template).
- You cannot use the stuff you've made earlier, because this competition is about making something new.

Uploading:
Suggested hosts to upload your entry to are:
- Or your own place.

Voting:
Just tell us your favourite game (and possibly a couple of less favourite ones), and hopefully someone will do the counting.

Important: please post here if you'd like to join but the timeline is not ok for you! Slight changes are always possible!

Ahh, I've been wondering what this "Hourgame" thing was.
I guess as I don't (yet) use IRC, then that may be excusable. :P

I might give one of these a try one day...
"But with a ninja on your face, you live longer!"

bicilotti

I won't be in, since I'm out for dinner. Good luck to all participants!

Crimson Wizard

How do you guys make a game in 1 hour??  ::)
Maybe I want to try that too.

Chicky

Right, i've got a free hour for once. I'm in.

OK, the theme is...

TERRORISTS AND REVOLUTIONS

(obviously because it was Guy Fawkes' Day recently, and 92nd anniversary of communist revolution of 1917)

extra bonus points for beards!

Also, i'm feeling ill and may fall asleep, so er, just start voting somewhere after 8:15 PM if i won't be around.

Meh. I have an interesting idea, but I got distracted, so I wont make it.
Completing in an hour is crazy anyway  :P.

But now I feel like I have a concept for current MAGS (or maybe just a short game not related to any competition)  ;D

Chicky

Well here's my entry, sorry for the lack of walking. 40 minutes in PS on Mac, 15 minute smoke break and then 5 minutes AGS when my pc finally decided to boot.

You'll have to copy the link.

Help Babar to destroy an American military base.

Lucky I just did it. Phew.

Edit: Babar, don't be offended. As you said, there are plenty of Babars  ;)

FSi++

Ok, let's vote, maybe.

Let the bestest entry win!

Chicky

NsMn i cannot complete your game! I want the gun belt :(

I like how your game features animations, mine does not.

NsMn

Spoiler
It's a very old puzzle... use the branch!

NsMn, when I make BOOOM, there's black screen and nothing happen...

NsMn

Don't worry, after a while, the game restarts... there should actually be text displayed, but the fading seems to hide the text box or whatever. Kinda sad.

Crimson Wizard

damn you people, my game was supposd to be thrice as long as yours two   :'(
if only I had 20 minutes more.

Chicky

BOOOM, it's the end, awesome game  :=

Btw, there are 3 potential endings (or interactions) to KILL THE QUEEN!

Crimson Wizard

it's hard to vote... one is antiamerican, which is clichee, and another is too bloody and gross :)

Okay, I vote for Chicky. At least he has more than 1 room  ;D

david

my vote goes to MsMn even though it is a cliché  ;)

bicilotti

Babar the wannabe extremist: remarkable effort. If features multiple endings, a sensible puzzle, blackboard graphics (which I love) and even an animated splash-screen (seems the author didn't have time to change the default "compiled" name though). I liked it, even if it could be more humorous.

Kill the queen: features nice graphics and sadly very few interactions. The gory scenes are very detailed and overall it manges to catch the crazy soul of mad terrorist.

My vote goes to Babar the wannabe extremist: of the two is the one that feels more like "a game".

Both of your entries were absolutely AWESOME :D I just couldn't decide which one to choose. So I flipped a coin.

It came up tails.

...

EDIT: So I played through the games once more and the one with the most replay value was to me surprisingly KILL THE QUEEN!, (I say surprisingly because of the lack of animation in the game) so I vote for Chicky :) Good job guys!
