Why is the Sir Lancelot so familiar to the King? Hmmm... let's not get too fast with hiring him.

Yes. Current treasury is 20 with an income of 20 per year.

I agree, hire him, but 5 gold is a bit expensive, so I'd say:

>HIRE LANCELOT and SIND him to EXPLORE, but HAGGLE a bit with him first.

+1.  There seemed to be other candidates for the position of hero: let's find out about this Lancelot guy before we agree to pay him 1/4 of our income.

WHAM

You gesture for the Jester to approach the throne, and the jokester shuffles to your side.

"Jester, what do you know of this Lancelot fellow?" -you ask, suspicious of the knight.

“My King” -the Jester replies “Sir Lancelot and his men are as straight and true as a knight can strive to be, and each of them can best any lowlier knight in single combat with ease. The Lancelot family has served this kingdom dozens of times and always with dignity and honour. Alas, the previous king, you know, the evil one, demanded them to put dozens of peasants to the sword for failure to comply with tax laws, so Lancelot turned his back on the King and fled into exile. It was around this time that you yourself began to gather supporters to overthrow the king. Lancelot declined to help you, as it would have been dishonorable to turn on a previous master, even if said master had taken a dark turn.

My King, if ever you wish to employ a band of men who will serve you loyally and truthfully, this is the man. However, if you ever plan to take a more, shall we say, drastic measures to keep the peace, then, while they will not turn on you, they may abandon you. Their service is only available to you for as long as your honour as King is untarnished."

Lancelot seems a good first choice. If Jester is right he's loyal as long as we play by the rules, that is a great bonus.
I say we take him aboard; who's with me?

cat

I agree with Ghost. As soon as we decide to kill peasants we can still hire someone else :P

> HIRE LANCELOT and order him to SEND a DELEGATION to EXPLORE

We could keep the rest of the guys as guards or send them to search for grails later on...

selmiak

maybe by mentioning the incredible worth of the golden coins we can negotiate some lower wage for him as we might need the rest of the goldcoins for other stuff... or we just pile up debts like every normal king would do...

Adeel

I don't wish to hire him without seeing rest of the candidates first.

>INQUIRE JESTER about the OTHER candidates.

Let's see what other candidates have to say

I think that hiring LANCELOT is a good decision. But before sending him to explore I believe we should have at least a MAP of the Kingdom.
There must be some records of previous alliances, both commercial and military with other nations. We should know more of the land history.

As for the map, I'm pretty sure the only one was burned in our assault on the castle (as explained in the OP).  My understanding is that a hero will go off and explore, and come back and fill in the map for us.  Since this Lancelot guy seems to check out, I guess it might as well be him and his posse.  So...

So, no maps anywhere? We have no clue where is the sea or the mountains or a river? But we conquered a castle obviously without any geographical knowledge of the area we live in...
And what about the latrines? An army has to have latrines. Are they outside in the backyard? Do we have a backyard?
Is ours a towncastle? What town?
Lancelot better carry pencil and paper with him...you know...between fights.

Here's why I'm reluctant to hire Lancelot:

1. His salary is too high for us to afford atm.
2. During the rule, we may have to do some 'dirty work'. If Lancelot would leave us at that very moment, at that crucial time, what's the use of him then?
