I think tracing over reference pictures is okay, doesn't show much effort though.

sportyjay

I have made another entry because this is such a great topic and its good for more practise, I hope that is okay.
It's Simba from "The Lion King", 10 colours.

It's here!

Wasn't this sorted some time ago? Tracing pics is okay when you include the reference pic with your work.

Sorry.
I didn't think it was rubbish, but IMO you sort of missed the point of a Sprite Jam. And you didn't include the reference.
The sprite didn't look original, and there have been people who cheated, so I hinted at that possibility. If I am wrong, again: sorry.

Chicky

Your new on'es better anyway lilemX

What exactly are the rules on reference pictures?
On this picture I didn't "copy," "paint over," or "trace" anything, but I tried to recreate the character.

ildu

If you used an image to directly trace or reference from it, you should include the reference image. Of course, it's up to one's own judgment. If you look at pics as reference and draw based on them, it's not serious. But when you have a specific image that you trace to make your 'own' image, it should be clear that you need to show the original pic as well as your 'version' of it. I guess the old rule applies: It doesn't count, if you don't get caught :D.

Thanks to everyone, in this contest you showed great skills and I would like to give a prize to all of you but time is over... maybe next time...

Congrats Ali, I especially liked Mordalles entry, but all entries were good.
