NEAR YOU

This month, please draw a background showing a landmark, city, famous person, etc. representing approximately where you live.

Deadline: March 24th July 1st

As usual the entries will be judged on:
- Concept: your background should tell us something about the kind of patrons that regularly visit the bar.
- Playability: does it have clear walkable areas, things to interact with, etc?
- Artistic Execution: what's the feeling of the place? Does the image convey the wanted atmosphere?

Have fun and good luck!

The topic was lifted from the Background Blitz suggestion thread.

Nice theme Creamy!

I'm going to try create something today for this one. Would love to see a few more entries too if anyone has time!

Seems to have been an interesting enough topic, but looks like it fell off the edge of the earth? Maybe if Creamy gave it a new deadline? Only reason I stopped by was my looking for something to do to get me moving again.

ildu

Yeah, I could also have a go. Initially I wasn't so inspired by the topic, but summer makes my surroundings a lot more interesting :).

Here you go, deadline extended until July 1st

@Creamy I hope you don't mind

jwalt

Here's something for your consideration:

Based on a photo inside Casa Bonita, a restaurant here in Denver, Colorado. Modeled and rendered in Anim8or.

Hopefully, someone else will have an entry before the deadline!

Not at all. I'm glad someone gave it a go.

What a strange place. I had never heard of it.

I'm not really good with this date-and-time-stuff and things. So I'm just going to guess we're still well before July 1st. Or else - if I'm mistaken - jwalt is the winner...

Than being said...I wanted to draw something because I'm been lacking a bit in that department. And So I decided to give you the Devils' House in Arnhem (where I used to live...not in this particular house).

I basically did a paint-over from a photograph I found online because I wanted to try some things without having to bother with composition, perspective and layout. But rather focus on some ideas I had for the line-art (that I wanted to keep really rough and sketchy).

Nice output, Misj'. Always a treat to see your art.

Too bad this competition is long overdue and interest has been pretty low.

Unless someone asks for it, I don't think I'll hold a vote.

ildu

I was intending to have a go, but things got in the way. And the longer time passed, I thought the thread would be closed at any minute, so I never started.

I would suggest skipping the vote and handing it over to Misj' for a new comp :).

Well, JWalt was actually on time. So without a vote I only got in second ;)

Yeah, but Misj's image would have gotten my vote, and it was the better entry. Since we're fairly close to clocking over another MAGS month, whoever brings forth a new competition might want to try a tie-in to the MAGS game topic. I'm surprised there seems to be so little interest, currently, in this competition.

I like that idea! - And as a bonus I feel we could then both join the new Blitz since neither of us would have an advantage on the topic and whoever starts it would basically be a host-in-name-only.

Yeah, me too. The Blitzes en the Jams have always been my favorite competitions (but maybe that's because I like drawing environments and characters). Which is another reason why I decided to completely ignore the concept of a deadline (the other reason is, because I'm annoying, have a weird sense of humor, and just can't seem to grow up). :-D

Alright, let's do this. I'll open a new Background Blitz on October fest first with the same theme as the next MAGS competition.

I'm fairly certain that the next MAGS will be a "finish your MAGS game" month because we had a month without participation.

Then we'll take the same theme as the 'current' MAGS. That should not be a problem I think.

Oh whoops, sorry about that :-D. Didn't notice it there.
