First of all, I'd like to say that I am not a poet and hence do not write poetry. But that doesn't mean I can't judge. And what is poetry? To me, it's not just verses the last word of which rhymes, u1bd2005 and r4l. Nor is it a random babble with no rhyme and composition, Obi. To me, poetry is beauty, flow of language, delight of sound when read out loud. And while I mean no offence to any of you, I don't find any of that here.

SSH

So you're saying that poetry can't be challenging?

Vel: Not everyone agrees with your definition of poetry. Besides, these competitions are about having a bit of fun, not being sticklers with what is poetry and what isn't. Does it make any difference if none of these entries are what you consider poetry? Not really.

Then everyone just ignore my statements and go on writing what you wan to, whatever.

Tuomas

Yes, please, do the latter. Oh, I hope this was over so you didn't have to see my name as the starter of this :P

To get back on track...
If it counts, here is a poem I wrote a few months ago.  I guess you would need to know the legend of Tristan and Isolde first (and not the movie version) for this to make sense.  Oh, and the "foreign draught" is a love potion, so that's how this fits the theme ^_^

This was my first attempt at a sonnet ever.  Iombic pentameter is not my friend, so don't laugh =^_^=

Tristan & Isolde

â€"Clouds softly weep, sun shines no light
Upon a stately ship a-sail the sea;
Below does lie the King's young bride-to-be
In sweet entwine with his most trusted knightâ€"
Wherefore the pair make unchaste embraces tight?
A foreign draught, haste-drunk to soothe their thirst,
Instead their passion stirred, and in fever burst
From within, withoutâ€"unto ill-starred night.
Ferocious fate! Though lovers' love be true,
Their love their arms will only brief enfold:
A royal sword will lay between the two,
And never will doting eyes again behold
The countenance most desirous to view:
She, her Tristan; he, his Isolde.

Vel!!  Have you ever been to a poetry bar
Do you know what poetry is
No

Lemme tell you its not about catchy rymes and silliness
Poetry is a feeling and a way of expressing yourself to a degree which you feel best

Anyways

To fall amongst the tulips
to adere to their sweet scent
To enjoy life to its entirity
No matter where were sent
The Colour and sound
Of mothers voice
falls softly on deaf ears
But we all know
The benefit ofÃ,
learning through the years
To drop or fall
the big and small
the sounds are all inane
But until we drop the
Final one
to stop the living pain
Currently working on a project!
