For this Sprite Jam I want to see some famous faces! There are lots of reason you can be a celebrity, an incredible body of work, being a total dick, being related to somebody else whom is famous, they don't need to be a celebrity for any particular reason just sprite-i-tize somebody famous!
Rules:
* Sprite must fit in a 320 x 200 resolution
* Color Palette must be 16 Colors or less
* Celebrity must be recognizable and well known (to be determined by the voters)
* Bonus points if you do a full "in-game" mock-up
* One entry per user, feel free to submit more than one entry but please clarify which one you would like to be judged.
* BTW, there is no "period" from which you must select your celebrity. As long as they are well-known. Napoleon? Sure. Hitler? Go ahead. Mark McGrath? Hmmm- well I did say "celebrity" so he might be out... Brad Pitt? Yup. Amy Winehouse? You've got the hang of it now!
* Entries must be submitted before 04/26/2010

I spent way too much time on this, but I've been wanting to do a proper mockup for awhile. GUI was designed rather quickly but the idea is to use the control pad under the radio if you want to change actions (it shows up the current one on the radio display). The volume control would control music volume and, theoretically, the cassette slot would allow you to change the music at any time by inserting bonus music cassettes found in the game. the Menu button on the wheel is for access to the general settings menu, the speedometer above it is actually player score, the inventory thing on the right is the inventory, and yeah, that huge bit in the middle is where you are presently and what your destination (might) be! I just thought a gui of the inside of the delorean would be neat so I made it. If I were seriously to work on this I would arrange things much better and make it look more like the proper inside of a car.

So i'm trying to get the inv items, there's the skateboard and then the fading photo? Maybe the sports results? ...and some plutonium?
(left to right): 'SAVE THE CLOCK TOWER!' flyer, a can of Pepsi (plutonium? ;o), a wallet which will contain, among other things, his family photo, and his trusty skateboard. This is supposed to be taking place at the beginning of the first movie when he goes to visit Doc Brown (and blows out the sound system).
I figured it was the Docs house + the clock tower in the bg, the wallet looked a bit like some sticks of plutonium in... something (paper bag, i guess).
Awesome cool anyway.
I suppose the wallet could look more like a wallet but I had to prioritize my time :). Anyway, Doc's house is based on a photo of the actual house used in the movies (just in case you thought I pulled the design out of my ass....I'm not that creative):

In retrospect, another thing I would change would be the inventory. The design is too boring and the sizes are too small to evoke as much detail as I'd like. As a revision I'd probably make the inventory the glove compartment which you can open close and just pull items out of without strict positions (think of it as a mini-hidden object game! :P).
I'm glad some people like it, anyway. Everything about it was rather rushed aside from Marty's base sprite :-[ .

You guys really made it tough on me! I chose Urkel because I think more than any other sprite he was more of a representation of the essence of Urkel than JUST a sprite version of the character. Dr. Cox took second place because he threatened to skull fuck me, if I didn't, and also the amount of accuracy and eerie detail was pretty impressive. Lastly, I was torn between Marty, Betty, Han and Clint; ultimately I weighed out: How recognizable was the character, how practical is the character, how detailed/well made was the character, how visually appealing was the character. Han Solo feels a bit muddled to me and Dirty Harry (while made awesome) wasn't instantly recognizable. Marty and Betty was tough. I REALLY REALLY like what Prog did with the sprite (and that Mock-Up is TEH AWESOME) but ultimately I kept thinking about the style used for Betty; it's all at once, simple, complex, intriguing, beautiful and descriptive. Betty was recognizable and would be easy to implement in a game. I finally settled that Betty seemed more like a Cameo where-as Marty felt like a Star.
So there you have it AGS! Your winners! I've been a bit busy lately, so- hopefully I'll be able to whip up some awards.... not sure what they would be made of, though...
