ORIGINAL MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION

While we spend most of the time roaming the world on foot in adventure games, it's generally inferred that the characters use various means of transportation to navigate between zones.
I want you to take this opportunity to spice up your game world or reveal an aspect of a character's personality.

Rules:
1. Draw an original mode of transport.
2. No size-limits.
3. No color-limits.
4. Multiple entries are allowed.

Have fun!

Deadline: August 31st.

It is said, that somewhere in the northern parts of (Dutch) Friesland you may find a kobold named Tjores together with his trusty pigeon Pier. Tjores is old. Very old. And thanks to kobold-magic, so is Pier. Some even claim that he was the first rock pigeon to have been domesticated...others question whether he's domesticated at all.

Concept:
Basically I just wanted to draw a pigeon...because pigeons/doves are fun.

Source: Vogelbescherming.

I thought about the Turkse Tortel; simply because they're cute. But I decided their personality didn't really fit.
So I pivoted to the Houtduif (Common wood pigeon). But eventually he turned into a Rotsduif (Rock Dove; similar to the stadsduif/city doves) when the kobold entered the picture. I felt their pairing matched better (although I decided to keep a bit of the city dove-look in there since it suited Pier).

As for their names. Well, they're taken form an old Dutch song (cover). And since 'Pier' can be both a name and a Dutch synonym for the 'regenworm' (Common Earthworm) it made sense to give my bird such a great name.

And that - of course - brought us to Fiesland, thanks to probably the most famous Pier in history: Grutte Pier; a legendary Friesian freedom-fighter.

Oh, and Tjores' blue jacket is a reference to Doctor Snuggles. Because that was the first thing I thought of when reading the theme. So I just had to put that in there.

Process:

Normally I to all my drawing and colouring in Corel Painter. But for this I decided on a hybrid-style, where the colouring is vector-based using Affinity Designer, and the line-art and sketches are still pixel-based using Painter.

May I just complement you on including The Gene Machine in the image reference? Such a blast from the past! Back in the day I had to travel from Finland to Estonia to get my hands on a copy of it (a pirated one) :-D.

What's the game with the airship? That one looks way cool!

I never get tired of this picture. Unfortunately it's not from a real game. It's a mockup made by Miez for a competition eons ago.

Love the theme!

With its custom-made lightweight fiberglass body and V8 engine, the SSV racked up many victories, even though it's starting to show its age in the 1970s. Designed for racing, it is not the ideal vehicle for going grocery shopping -- but that never stopped its owner.

Rickshaws have been around for quite a while, but the motive force here has only recently come about as a result of extensive gene manipulation in the labs:

Modeled and rendered in Anim8or. GIMP used to make the gif file.

Edit: Friend commented that the "eyeballs" would also work as headlights at night. Gave it a try:

I'm not very good with the lights in Anim8or.

Not another entry, just messing around:

Recent MAGs had phones as a topic. Thought it might be fun to make a joke game with Jabba the Hutt being pestered with calls meant for Pizza Hut. Never got beyond a poorly model Jabba, but putting it to use here:

This is the last day to enter (and the last day of summer break for me  :~( )

The last day became a week, but here we are, voting for our most deliciously eccentric mean of transportation in an hypothetical game:

Will it be Misj' pigeon?

Lorenzo's SSV?

Or jwalt's rickshaw?

Deadline: September 20th.

My thoughts about the entries:

Misj' pigeon

If I look for nice characters to draw, a kobold and a pigeon don't spring immediately to mind, but yours look very sympathetic.
I wonder what's the lever for. My guess is that pulling it drops the crate in case of emergency.

Lorenzo's SSV
Spoiler
I love how you combine different styles into your own. The car is quite realistic, but some details are cartoony (exhaust pipe, cat logo). The pilot's big eyes show the influence of manga but she's definitely westernized. Ever heard of Ric Hochet? An old comic journalist-detective that drove a yellow Porsche:

jwalt's rickshaw
Spoiler
I can't imagine this thing being comfortable for the passenger.
The little guy pulling the rickshaw reminds me of a rotovator. Surely it can't be good for the road if he steps back (laugh)
Kudos for animating it.

The pigeon was whimsical and well executed, but, in my mind, a pretty girl and a fast car will win every time.

I vote Lorenzo.
