Now come on, how unprofessional can you get.  Radiant said this:

Unfortunately, due to the advances made in computer technology over the last twenty years, such classic games no longer run on the modern computer.
Does anybody actually have problems running AGI games?
I call bullshit. All AGI games run perfectly fine on all modern PCs, and with the several free interpreters available they also run perfectly fine on Macs, Linuxes and Gameboys. Even getting KQ5/6 to run isn't all that hard.

Which is true.  He used a word you didn't like, but he was being truthful.

One thing I had trouble with over this whole silly debate is semantics.  Radiant wanted your team to admit that they didn't make this game *because* the old game didn't run anymore.  It's obvious that Radiant is right, since A) You can run KQ3 on a modern computer and B) There are hundreds of games that might not work on a modern computer.  Obviously you had to have picked KQ3 for some other reason.  After all, both bits of your team had started with their own port.  Neither team started by polling the adventure game community for what they wanted and to act as is you made the game based on public need (
QuoteUnfortunately, due to the advances made in computer technology over the last twenty years, such classic games no longer run on the modern computer. It was with this in mind that Infamous Adventures decided to remake this game
)is simply not true.  Another word for making a press release statement that is not true is "bullshit."  There's nothing wrong with remaking an awesome game like KQ3 because it was an interesting and fun game, Radiant just wanted you to say so.  Is that so beyond your capacity to do without turning to whinging sarcasm?

Radiant also said:
QuoteIt's honest to say that KQ3v has fewer music tracks than some games because of a conscious decision on style. It's dishonest to say that it has a lot more music tracks than the original.

I don't know if his claim is accurate since I didn't see your team respond to it with anything other than ad hominem attacks, but it's not all that damning a claim.  You could just respond with dignity and say either "Yeah, I guess we didn't see it that way, we'll think about changing the press release to be more accurate" or "actually, here's the count, we've got 5 more songs than the original, here's the link"

He also claims you should have eliminated more bugs than you did and you suggested that AGDI had just as many bugs.  The response was basically "well I didn't say those exact words"  --but the words you said could certainly be interpreted that way.

At no point did Radiant insult your team or call you names, just wanted you to use more honest language.  That's not an attack, it's a natural human inclination.  Instead, members of the team accuse him of being in an "ivory tower" (which makes no sense in context) and accuse him of not having made anything (an untrue statement and a wild ad hominem attack).

Boy do I not want to make a critique of your game now, good job bullying the community.  I know you'll call me names if I do, which I don't want to recieve.  I was going to wait for the voicepack, but if I have any complaints, the whole team will jump down my throat and villify me, so I guess I won't bother.  You already have enough fans without paying attention to legitimate critiques, right?

Sorry for clogging up this thread with side-talk.

BTW, I liked typing in incantations in KQ3, liked the danger of it.  It doesn't sound as if your QA team was that much into the game, missing game-crippling bugs.  I think myself I could have tried a few more methods of spell-casting than the couple you mention, it being such an essential part of the game.  I can think of several mini-game-like versions in my head, but perhaps you tried them all.  I don't blame your QA team for the bugs or for that (again your team turned on your betatesters in another message), since you always have the power to check for bugs yourself or ask them to really try harder.  My games are buggy as well, but I'm willing to take responsibility for that--I just get tired after a while and release anyway, so I understand the impulse.  Anyway, sorry for contributing to the silly debate, but that "zing" comment really got to me.
I also really liked my old signature.

This whole thing has been blown out of proportion. Bspeers you may have a point from where you stand, as someone who opens this post and instead of finding "game related chat" you run into a whole little war.

There are issues here, that are not very public, and a past that should not be remembered.

I hope you dont feel that this is how we treat people at our forums, we have been nothing but accepting everyones input about the game, be it good or bad.

This isnt about getting attention, it was a simple reaction between people who know each other VERY well.. as we have all worked with each other in the past, so it has become a rather unfortunate private feud.

I can asssure you this line of bickering will not continue by any side. Lets get on with this and put what we've said in the past.

Sinister.

Hey, hey!  Do I have to hug everyone in this thread?

Meh, King's Quest. I was as apathetic then as I am now. :-\

I never really got the attraction of remakes (aside from the bonus of having most of the ground work already done for you).

But I applaud anyone who can get a finished product of (semi) professional quality to store shelves, as it were.

Well done. :)

I've been coming to these forums for over a year but never really had anything to contribute until today.Ã,  I know that some people have complained about this game, but I just wanted to say that on behalf of the other 24,975 other people who downloaded the game, “You Guys Rock”. I love this game!!!Ã,  The music is great and the graphics are amazing.Ã,  These are the kinds of projects that inspire others to try their hand at AGS.Ã,  Bugs? So what? I've never played an AGS game I couldn't crash! Was the release statement misleading? Truth of the matter is, I can't believe how many people actually read it; most of us were too busy trying to download the game :). Anyway, I had just one quick question; did you guys have to work out an official fan game license with Vivendi or do they not care because it was a 1:1 remake? Well, keep up the great work!

yes I agree with bvi and voicepack was great too;) :D

Anarcho

Hey, it's looking good so far.  I loved this game as a kid, and this remake is just as fun.  Great job!

skyfire2

For some reason, I feel that I might be pimping this game a little too much.

Fantastic remake, it brings back nice memories (in a higher resolution and with more colors :D)... I look forward to the voice pack.

QuoteI find it amazing how critical some people can be of a project, regardless of the creators' claims of it's features/abilities, when these people volunteered their efforts for our entertainment.

Truer words have rarely been spoken.  This is a sentence everyone should read and re-read and commit to their minds before downloading a freeware project.  Say whatever you want, but at the end of the day you paid nothing for it; zilch.  Zippo.  Nada.  If your sole claim to blame is the download time then you need to find a hobby, like basket weaving.  This is not to say I am against criticism;  criticism, if constructive and well-meant, is wholly beneficial to the author--but there's a difference between constructive and destructive criticism, ie, criticism meant to denegrate or drag down the author, and this is a distinction people need to pay attention to.

As far as King's Quest goes, I've never been much of a fan to be perfectly honest.  I never quite got the whole 'wow, I died yet another unique way' thing other people seem to go for.  I don't mind death if it's relevant, but Sierra really upped the bar on overdeath, hence, I only played the original KQ3 rather recently and was unimpressed with the story, so playing your remake didn't exactly change that opinion; however, and this is important, I found the graphics to be true to the sierra 90's style and the story consistent.  In other words, as a remake I think you nailed it.  Aside from the bugs, which did not bother me at all really, the portraits were a bit hit and miss.  What I mean is that, though quality work, some of them looked as though made by different artists.  Some were perfect like Mannanan, while others had outlines and a sketchy look.  I think consistency here might improve the overall presentation, though it's not that big of a deal.  Overall I would say you did an effective job recreating the original, and fans of the original should not be displeased.  Nice work.

well, i too think people are too critical of freeware games. however, when people tell ("claim") us that their game is the same quality as commercial games like kings quest 5 and 6, then they are asking for it.

had a bit of a play last night - very impressed so far - especially the graphics. the only gripe I have is why are the portraits in hires unlike everthing else?

The voice pack will be released next week, we didn't want you guys to wait any longer. Don't worry, you won't have to redownload the game just for the voice pack. Just simply add the file to the program and boom, you're off!

when do we get to see this? It's been more than a week.

I believe it will be released with the patch and other changes once the patch is done.

Which should be soon.

AGD2

I've been around the development side of the adventure community since 1999, and the one thing that's always held true is that it's bitchier than the fashion industry. Seriously. Don't let the criticisms get you down, guys. Stay in the game and keep doing what you enjoy doing.  With time, you'll get a sense of which criticisms are valid enough to take into account, and which ones are posted just to get a rise out of you.

You'll also get a plethora of suggestions, some of which are real gems  -- not because they're any good, but just because they're so abstract that they make you wonder "What the hell was that person smoking?" (i.e. "You should make Alexander's tongue come out of his ear and lick his nose as an Easter Egg"; or "you should have made this as a 3D FPS to keep with the times.") Some of those comments are priceless enough to keep as trophies.

Still haven't had a chance to play the remake yet, but I'm looking forward to giving it a spin. Good work again on the release!

Josh R

Excellent job IA! I am thoroughly enjoying the game thus far. This was my favorite of the text based KQ games, and playing it AGI is a lot of fun. Great work.

Threepwood

I am downloading now, thanks so much for the remake! It looks like it really beats the "King's Quest Collection" version!

Calamity

I downloaded it last night and have been playing around with it for most of the day. It's really looking fantastic so far guys! :D Your effort is really showing off, and it's very much appreciated. The alst time I played KQ3 I was rather young and really bad at text parser games, thanks to you I think I can finally enjoy it.

The game has been great thus far.  For being pathetic little ameteurs (joking) it's excellent.  I've noticed two small things that were disturbances.  When I tried to teleport from the house to the tree near the desert, my character sorta froze.  I could click the acorn tree and the acorns and get a response, but when I tried to walk, it wouldn't move anywhere or say anything.  I just teleported to another place and walked....took an extra two minutes...DARN!  Heh, but there was one serious issue.  I can't get any further.  I have everything I can possibly get, I think.  I at least have everything I need for the wizard/cat spell, except the cat hair.  I have clicked on that darn cat (pardon the bad pun) at least a thousand times (or maybe ten, but who's counting).  I can't seem to get the cat fur.  I tried killing it, but apparently graham, alexander...whatever his name is (haha) doesn't like to kill cats.  Well, I hope I get a response soon so I can continue playing this game.  Anybody know if I can download any other kings quest games?  (originals, obviously)  I know tierra has amazing versions of 1 and 2, but I'd like to do 4-8?9?  how many have there been?  Heh.  I bought the games a while ago...when they were $10 each or something back in the day.  I've paid my sierra dues.  Well feel free to e-mail me with anything ya got at picketfnc5@yahoo.com.  Enjoy the game fellas.

Thank you for your game, guys. It actually feels like a professional game, despite some bugs. One of the best remakes out there, that's true. Hope to see your own game in the near future!
