Yolt1, this is because you never brought me back my light saber..
Shame on you..  ;D

A sequel could be fun, but we already are on something (Yolt1 had
some nice ideas and you will all curse him if we'll make them..)

Thank you very much for your kind words about NES Quest, we really
appreciate, we promise to take account of the "default save/restore/quit"
gui look and "characters animation" remarks for the next game  ;)

Yolt1

As far as animation is concerned i'm the one to blame -_-. But as we already said we tried to keep it simple for our first game. Nes Quest enabled us to get more used to the ags engine and to all the things needed in animation for an adventure game. Next will be better... ;)

I've just finish it, great work guys
Working on a RON game!!!!!

Nostradamus

Well I finished it - the game was a very good effort. Simple story but interesting due to nostalgia, puzzles were mostly classic adventure game puzzles, but it was cool cos they weren't too hard and weren't too easy, great graphics, and that little handheld game was nostalgically (is this a word?  ;D) cool. Language & spelling could be better and there could be more witty remarks to interactions but those were good enough. It seems like you guys have great potential to make better and longer games so good luck.
If you were going with authenticity, did you actually hear anyone actually refer to the console as NES back in day?  sure, it was written NES as magazines and stuff but at least where I live nobody has ever called the console NES when speaking about, it was only referred to simply as Nintendo. So it didn't feel right to me having people say "NES" instead of "Nintendo" when speaking about it the game.
Also, one thing in the game was kinda lame -
Spoiler
when the mom says "I'll open the cupboard when I'm finished with my work" so you have to exit the house and return - that was really unnecessary!  It seems like a desparate attempt to make the game a few seconds longer but it doesn't really do anything, it's just unneccesary. Especially since you also included the feeding the fish thing. That was more logical and it's an acceptable action. No need for 2 stallers of this kind.

Mr.T

Hey Nostradamus thank you very much for your constructive critics we really appreciate  ;)
To be honest I reckon back in the day I called my NES "nintendo", but then when the SNES
came out I had to differ both of them and called NES and SNES. (I still have my SNES too btw  ;D )

So today, after all those Nintendo products, calling it "Nintendo Quest" would have be too
blurry, we wanted to specify the 8bit console, and everyone would better understand what
the story is about without reading the plot yet (I presume  ;D )

Thank you all for your comments, it feels great  ;)  :=

Excellent game.  I still think the fat boy playing the old hand held should have been a part of the quest.  Like you have to play the hand held game to obtain an object or something along those lines.

If you guys make a sequel you should definitely make more 'arcade-style in-life moments'.  Like when you were told to feed the fish.  The fish should have been in a large tank against the wall.  The camera should have been at a full view of the tank and then you had to press left or right to control where to drop food (just like the hand held).  The food drops slowly to the bottom of the tank, but you have to drop it close to where you think the fish is going to be swimming (as it swims back-and-forth randomly).  You only have so many pieces of food, then you have to 'restart' the challenge if you run out, until the fish catches a certain amount of food.

Also like I had mentioned before, a scene where he has to cross a busy street, have a top view of the street.  Let the ego move left, right, forward or backward.  Then the player has to control where the ego is going to safely cross the street.  Watch this:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyuY_ZwDbXE  I love that scene.  Of course only do this action once, otherwise it would be too much.

Normally in any other game, this of course wouldn't fit and would be very weird.  But in an NES game, it fits perfectly!

yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

whoop whoop whoooooooop!

Ryan Timothy: Haha great suggestions! Believe us we had in mind a game with the Fish  ;D
but we wanted the game to stay "short and simple" and we started to think about so many new
mini-games ideas that the game could have been released on May or something  :D

The video you linked was funny haha, the idea would have indeed fit very well. A little series of
mini-game would gave a more arcade feel to NES Quest.

But Yolt and I before starting this game, told to each other let's make a short and simple game
to see how it goes. I mean, from experience I understood that if you go too big for the first one
it might get aborted in the end. (because of day job, life obligations and stuff..)

So to avoid this mistake we stayed with a basic concept, made the puzzles around it and in a month
NES Quest was done  ;) I assure you the next game we'll make with Yolt will be longer and the
puzzles more interesting. NES Quest was more for all of us who loved oldies, with many props to
games we loved since we are kids  :D

Nagania: Hahaha thank you very much!  ;)

Peder 🚀

I finally had the time to play the final release! ;D.

I love it!
And I love the mini game :P.
And the outro is lovely!!!!! :P.

Great game!
And hope you will make another? :P

Peder.

Mr.T

Thanks a lot Peder  ;D ;D

We are actually preparing the translation of the game in Spanish and French,

I just finished the game.

I liked it. It wasn't very long, but it was very enjoyable form beginning to end.

The minigame was great extra :)!

Hope to see more games from you!

sergiocornaga

I finished it. It was a fun hour! Very enjoyable game, reminded me of the good ol' days of AGS so I guess it was nostalgic in more ways than you probably intended. Thank you so much for making it!

Joe

Excelent game! ;D

But please change the speech font!

Mr.T

I thought I posted an answer but I can't see it so I'll repost it  ;)

Thank you all for your kind words, we are really happy you liked it
since it was a short "test" game for us to get familiar with AGS  :=

It's odd it seems only Yolt and I love this font haha, we think it fits
well the NES context. Now that we are translating the game we might
change the font a little bit. But we really like the pixelated look :P

Thank you once again for dropping a message we really appreciate  :D

skuttleman

hhha... just another geek-o-nostalgic player like us...
Just joking  ;D even if it's true that nintendo is a big part of our childhood (and as far as i am concerned still a big part of my life) .

Thanks for your kind words

ThreeOhFour

Nice little game :).

I liked the inclusion of a minigame, good stuff, but yes I would have liked this to been a puzzle related thing (i.e that you had to complete both modes once each at least in order to get an item essential for the game).

My favourite part was the little ending sequence - very nice indeed.

Good work, especially for a first.

Mr.T

Thank you for your kind words  ;D

I just wanted to announce that v1.2 is coming, the game is now in
English (default), Spanish (thank you yS) and French.

We changed the font (we had to for French/Spanish char support)
so we really hope the new font will be loved this time haha  :D ;D

Mr.T
