QuoteWhen you say corrupted can you be a little specific? Cause I'd definitely love to investigate on that.

The error message I get in the dark room and the one I get when I try to load my previous savegame are the same: Game has been modified since save; unable to restore game. The thing is, I never changed anything in the game settings (the setting.exe file) and the only option I ever messed with from the options menu was the Skip Style to "Timer Off". And every other savegames works perfectly, all but this one.

-edit-
Currently downloading the latest version, I'll try to take a break of Curse of Monkey Island tomorrow to give this new version a try.

I have no idea why this is happening, as I said this is an AGS bug.
And I'm not just blaming it on the engine. It's irrelevant to the options blueskirt, it happens under other circumstances.

Sslaxx it happens on the darkscene.

blueskirt. Okay just re-uploaded.

EDIT: I feel compelled to apologize for any of the bugs that spoil this game. If anyone wants a savegame till the point he reached I can fastly make one for him.

I made the mistake of downloading on day one and not following the thread. :(
No need for a save game though. I liked playing what I played through thus far.
I can see the work you put into this, DN. Cheers.

Grim

Just finished it. Here's what I think.

For a big fan of Douglas Adams' literature like me it was a truly great experience to revisit places and events from the book. I think you have captured the HHGTG absurd and abstract world very well and pretty much how I imagined it in my head. The humour never fails and the game is incredibly funny- and very clever- most of the time.
Graphically it's great and there's a real variety to backgrounds and characters. I'm used to your art style now and I think it suits the game perfectly. As a matter of fact, from now on whenever I will think of HHGTG I will probably have the image of your Arthur Dent imprinted in my head:)
  My favourite part is definitely
Spoiler
the foggy planet with where man-eating frog lives and all of the stuff going on on Earth before it gets destroyed

.

Something needs to be said about the puzzles, though... I know it's a remake and you were sticking faithfully to the original puzzles from the text game but I found them incredibly hard! Maybe I'm just not that good at adventure games after all but I don't think I'd ever be able to finish it without the walkthrough. In most cases- when I referred to the walkthrough- it was like: Damn, why didn't I think of that! But there were also cases when I knew I'd never figure some stuff out on my own:
Spoiler
putting fluff in the toolbox, the whole atomic plotter thing, giving cheese sandwich to Arthur- I just kept thinking- why the fuck do they keep dying?
[close]
That being said, I understand the absurdity of some puzzles was meant to reflect the crazy Monthy Python-like sense of humour from the book and I'm sure hardcore adventure game players will see it as a great challange ( that they can crack in one afternoon). I swear to God I didn't want to resort to Leon's walkthrough but after a while I just felt helpless... and very tempted.

I actually liked the music as it is in current form! I've been told that Xenogia works on some tracks for the next version of the game and I'm sure they'll be awesome, but all through the game I never felt like anything was lacking.

Also, I didn't mind the difficult inteface- I thought it was pretty good, once I learned how it worked- it didn't take me more than half an hour to know where everything was. I think it made H2G2 very special, one of a kind game.

To sum it up, I enjoyed H2G2 a lot! My only concern is the crazy difficulty level... but in the end it only makes the experience last longer :P I suppose most of AGSers won't struggle as much as me.  I think it's a beautiful, complex and well-built game and definitely worth waiting 400 years it took to make it:)

I regret to say that I've been too busy to play this game as of yet, but it's definitely on my to-do list.

I just wanted to congratulate Dualnames on having this game selected as a Pick of the Month! This is one remake I'm definitely not going to pass up.

I was equally stunned with it being chosen ;)

Grim

I'm glad that even playing the game by a walkthrough, you've had some fun! Most of the game is hinted on Strag mode, but you can never be twice sure for the whole part of the game. I do agree with you on certain things. The graphics probably just get by, and that was the point. I'm not sure I'd call them great.

On the music side, I composed the tracks very luckily and I had some great help from Dan Neshor (ShiverMeSideways) that composed the intro and outro songs.
Not much worth re-downloading, but I'm finished with the uploads and re-uploads. I've added the walkthrough and I've hinted all the parts that were hard on you guys. You probably won't miss it now.

Gah, you wait 2.5 years then choose to release the game on the very day I go on holiday for 2 weeks!!  :o ::)

I carefully planned this to happen on that day. I didn't knew it was your holiday day.
I love that part from your blog comment:

"Wait... you mean you've actually released HHGTG ?!? Wow... I'd kinda figured it would never happen!"

And with Grim's
"and definitely worth waiting 400 years it took to make it:)"

I get the picture. :D

I hope it is what you expect it to be. And thanks for everyone that has rated the game so far and SSH for choosing it as a pick of the month.

Spoiler
...Did you justify having Arthur suddenly end up in his own mind without explanation by pretending it was a massive glitch in the game? Because that's bloody brilliant.

I think I've found another bug. Using the Nutrimate Interface on the Nutrimat doesn't do anything. Also, even though I'm using the new version, I'm still getting crashes in Dark. THe resulting autosave files still get errors, but they're no longer modified file errors (instead, the exact error varies), and I think the autosave becomes usable again after it's saved somewhere other than a crashed Dark. Also, the errors no longer spread to non-autosave saves.

Hey BiggerJ, glad you liked that scene. It took me a lot of brainstorming in the forums, on IRC and on Skype, and if it wasn't for AngelicCharon it wouldn't be there.

Also thanks to CaptainD for this:

And a funny article here as well:

You haven't completed all the scenarios that's why you can't use the interface on the Nutrimat  ;). So that's no bug. As for the autosave thing, I've probably fixed it now, so I therefore re-uploaded. Now no loading or saving happens on the Dark Room or Global script related to it, so you probably won't get any bugs.

Okay, like you asked in your latest message, I'm about to send my save files to the email address listed in your profile. But remember, they're from the version I've been using, which is the one before the current version (I'm sure of that, because I downloaded the latest version to check - I haven't run the latest version, just read the changes file).

Edit: Email sent.

Also, if possible, could you please upload the game's music files? There something I just can't help but like about the game's soundtrack, especially the Heart of Gold corridor tune.

Of course. For anyone interested it's also on the first page of this topic, and here it is as well.

And here's what I found today.

http://captaind-pc-gaming.blogspot.com/2010/06/h2g2-review.html

A review by none other than CaptainD. I probably should take this into pm but you're bloody honest, and I couldn't disagree with any point made in the review.

Except for the fact that Marvin wasn't done correctly, but you may be right.

There was a constant battle in my head between Easier game or more true to the original. Point is the deaths are part of the original, they add a funny twist. I hate deaths in games, but really loved them on that game. I know it may end up annoying, but its all there, everything is hinted as much as I could without spoiling the atmosphere. I strongly thing the game is hard yes, but the solution is there.

I loved the review, and I agree with it. I don't except it to be anyone's cup of Tea, cause it's not.

I assume you rated the game on the games page "Bad" on the puzzle thingy.  :D
To sum up, I find the review correct at every aspect.

EDIT: Woot, in order to stick to my treadmark double post. Here's a great review by Gnome's Lair

Gnome is still in the process of playing it, but damn look at that excitement. ;)

I'm not sure how I'd rate the puzzles - some were brilliant, some were baffling - but that could very well be me being dense!  ;D

Glad you liked the review, even though I had to admit to not loving the game.  One problem is perhaps that I never actually played the original (the shame... but as I said, the text adventure genre as a whole kind of skipped by me at the time).  If it's any help I found the original King's Quest really annoying too!  ;)

H2G2 is a fantastic achievement and being difficult isn't particularly a bad thing, but you made me kill Arthur Dent a lot of times... and I like Arthur  ::)

Is there a walkthrough for this game? If so where?

Also comes along with the downloaded game rar. Just in case your internet dies on the most important part. :)

Here is one thing that bothers me: When you drop the thing your aunt gave you which you don’t know what it is it doesn’t seem to come back to you, and the whale seems to never splat, which completely ruins the alternate way to get the flowerpot. Was that on purpose?

Dualnames

I was never aware there was an actual alternate way to get the flowerpot really. I checked a couple of walkthroughs but for all I know it was only via:
