here are some screens  from a game i started on, but scrapped the idea for something better. I am going in a whole new direction now, but can you give me some C+C about these screens, so i can use it to improve my graphics in my new game.

It seemed too Kings Quest for me, and want to do something more in an original style.

DNA

quite nice for low color.

on the top one the forground pine tree looks kinda as thought the light is coming from the ground. also the fence vines in that one and the colomn vines in the third one might look better as a darker shade so they stand out.

the last one is great, love those semi-untidy shelves.

Eggie

Well...the gradients look a bit poop...
In your next game, try doing solid "blocks" of shading using a mouse/tablet; filling in bits you feel there would be a shadow. Putting patches of light...it's quite soothing actually.

i like the style. you shouldn't have scrapped the project. looked promising.

as for C+C I don't like gradients too much, were there gradients type of shading in the trees behind the fountain?
in my humble opinion, just using a darker shade of the same color looks better than gradient.

overall, i like the environments. good to see hard work put into details in backgrounds.

Good work, your style is good. I think gradients works well in some place, but on some places it doesn't look very good.

The house in the first background is lovely ^_^

You have an eye for detail, that's for sure. Nice compositions, especially the first and last one.

Keep practicing your drawing and colouring skills and the rest will come automatically.

Wow, I really like this style - (Reminds me a bit of Pirate Fry, actually... :) )
Am I totally wrong if I guess that you used DXPaint for these?

As for critisism, one thing that bothers me is the pinetree in the first picture - The lack of outlines almost makes it blend into the grass. Try and doing some darker outlines for it, and I think it'll look better.
Also, the vines on the wall is a wee bit to bright - But besides that the pictures are great.

But I definately think you should continue on the project - Good luck!

Evil

They look great. Reminds me of Gobliiins, except with like crazy colors. Very cool. I dont really like the gradients though...

Domino

i went a little crazy with the gradients, that is probably one reason i'm going to start over from scratch. Plus probably in a higher resolution. I have an idea of what i want to do in my head, but i really don't know how to portray them on the screen. I am doing sketches in a notebook and then will get back to doing new backgrounds. So, thanks for the input everyone.  :)

Rincewind: Yeah, it reminded me of Pirate Fry as well

BG: I really like your sense of composition.  It seems like you have definite ideas about what you want in each scene, and it comes across well.  Like most others I'm going to have to throw in my distaste for gradients, though ;)

auhsor, get a hold of your friends cause i think you're really gonna start losing them here if you can't stop your friends from doing this

Yeah, turn off your cookies or whatever so that it doesn't log in automatically.

btw, the screen with the fountain never got completed, i gave up on it because i didn't like it. I was just bored one night and starting drawing a screen.  I am using PC Paintbrush, which i bought 10 years ago, and is quite good for drawing backgrounds though. It has some nifty features, most which i haven't used. I just use the line tool most often.
