hey everybody! m' name is chris and im hard at work on my first game, Chris and Tim's Big Day Out.
i just wanted to get an opinion on my lead characters.
if you cant tell i modeled them off of Maniac Mansion (simply because its the best i could do)

maybe you could add some more detail, and change the shoes. can't you make the characters look a little more different, like the size of their body or something.

Hi, Evopepper - Always nice to see a new face here!

I like the overall style of your sprites, but as Ibex said, the outlines needs some serious work: Never use outlines that are lighter than the colour you need to outline, or a totally different colour - Use either black or darker outlines (Whichever you prefer - Personally I prefer darker ones.), and you'll see the difference. Besides, there is no outlining at all on their arms and faces, which looks a bit inconsistent. I would suggest that you do outlines there as well if you want it to look a bit better.

Otherwise, I've got no real problems with it - Maybe someone else can develop the critisism a bit more?

thanks for the tip about the out lines! i think my major problem is that im using ms paint. a VERY corupt version at that. you can see that the shoes are a funny purple color, thats because when i save my pic in anything other than BMP it messes w/ the color.
  i also wanna touch on how the bodys are the same size, tim and i are the same body type so i made them the same(yes im THAT egotistical i think i can use myself as a charicter and make an ok game)

A lot of Windows installs also include the Microsoft photo-editor.  It'll save as a jpeg without screwing your colors up too badly.  Or, you might get a shareware version of PSP to convert files with.  I'd personally recommend leaving MS-Paint on the wayside but if you prefer it, at least use something else for the format conversions.

Nice work. They have a lot of character!

I think the lighter outlines on the shirts look just fine, but the green outline on Chris' pants looks kind of odd to me. I don't really know why, I'm no artist so I can't explain it.

that chris character's face kinda reminds me of the character from SSH's games, and by that i don't mean crap btw  
also, i like the lighter outlines on the clothing, if that's your style you should keep it, one thing you should perhaps do is sort out all the double pixels, apart from that i like them

It's nice, but I can just say the same thing here - The outlines could use some more work. But as said by both Ghormak and Boyd, if that's part of your style, then you should keep it that way.
I'd say his shoulders are a bit broad as well, unless you are going for a really big, macho-type character...
I dig the beer cans, though!

haHA! nice dude! thats awesome, i like the jacket, kinda "silent bob" style, also maybe give the pants a darker outline, maybe a darker brown, excepting the green splotches, maybe use a dark green. overall, it's great, keep up the good work!
