Hey, I need feedback to my company logo, which is work in progress.
My company is named there is no spoon, and has nothing to do with the matrix :P It's a different story to the name, so quiet you ;)

The idea for the logo was to show that we're cooking up delicious games for gourmets to savour.

Thanks for taking your time to help.

I have no idea what your company is. As I learnt from my own thread like this a while ago, it has to show what the company is about, without even explaining. I strongly suggest designing a new logo which better reflects what your company stands for/makes.

But, if you like how it is, the plate is wooden and the fork is upside down. ;)

auriond

Whatever the company is though, I seriously love the name and concept. :D

Ryan Timothy B

It's definitely a catchy title.
Perhaps having the whole plate and center the same color would look better, instead of the center being black.  It looks more like an 'O' or Zero rather than a plate.

I also disagree with Atelier.  I don't think a company logo Must have a relation to your company, just as long as it's not as odd as a Cow for a logo and the business is a Bank.  Basically the more professional a business, the less whacky the logo can be.  But for an entertainment logo, I think almost anything can work.

Atelier: Didn't I tell you what the vision of our company was? The idea was to show that we're cooking up delicious adventure games for gourmets to savour.

Thanks for all feedback. I'll try to fix the logo and post a new version of it soon.

Ryan, yes, it can be misconceived as being a zero, and then it will lose a little of it's meaning.

Ok, I was just thinking about whether I would make the connection between cookery and games - but after re-reading your post it makes sense to me now. Not a cover story, I genuinely didn't understand in the first place. So it's a good idea.

I'm a fan of more subtlety ... so I did this [very sloppy and quick] paint-over:

I removed the question mark.  I like that it's implied that there would be no spoon rather than hi-lighting the fact with the question mark.

Also added a middle of the plate.

Just some thoughts ... I really like the concept!

jannar85

Thanks Darth. Imageshack works btw! (hint hint ;) ) It's good to see you again.

Haha yeah ... I've never used imageshack (or any of the image hosting sites) because I've always had my own website/servers to use.  Just sometimes they go poo-poo.  It should be showing now (I moved it to another server).

Good to see you too man!

jannar85

Okay, it worked now. I can see that it looks a lot better now, compared to my version. Thanks for the suggestions everyone!

By the way, is it just me, or does the colors on the fork and the spoon seem a little off? Could be all those darker areas... or the light gray. I think it would be better having the colors more in tune with eachother.

Here's the latest version, I did some changes to it. Also about the colours that didn't seem right...

Sorry for the repost..

Much improved!

Here is another quick paint-over with a few more suggestions:

The light-source (based on the shadows cast by the utensils) is from the left.  So the right side of the plate should have a hi-light rather than a low-light (unless I'm completely off on the plate's design :))

Added a slight bevel to the outer edge of the plate... not sure it was necessary but punched it up just a bit I think.

In light of this, wouldn't Gourmet Games be a preferable name?

I may be biased because of my dislike of the Matrix, but I think, "there is no spoon," is one of the worst lines in a film full of bad lines. I guess you liked the Matrix, so feel free to discount my opinion!

markbilly

I agree, I like the Matrix but why not name your company something original?

I like Gourmet Games, for example.

Also, in light of your gourmet comment, why is the plate empty? It looks dull and doesn't really reflect the idea of 'cooking up delicious games'.

I have to agree with Ali and Markbilly about the name.  People are always going to think of the matrix first, and that;s obviously what you don't want.

Thanks for the name-change suggestion, but I'm afraid that Gourmet Games is already taken, as we've considered that name a long time ago, but then we figured out that there was a company already named that. And there was another company that took the name, but had to change it to something else

So I don't know the impact it will do to us, if we're going with the same name?

The logo design was meant to show that there is no spoon :P And the player waiting for delicious "games" for us to cook up. I mean, if we're adding food as well, it will be even more complicated logo design.

I don't really mind people thinking "OHH! The Matrix!"

It can actually have a positive effect on our games, as we're making games in the same type as the matrix...

What about Gastronomy Games then?

Well you could always try something like Gourmet Game Studio or Gourmet Entertainment or Gourmet Game Entertainment.  Something like that.

I don't mind the reference to the Matrix, personally.  I loved the first (and only the first) of the trilogy.  Maybe, instead of "There is no Spoon" it could be something else like No Spoon Games, No Spoon Studio, Spoonless Games, No Spoon Needed or No Spoon Entertainment.

As odd as it may sound I'm a fan of picking a company/corporate name that has a fun-to-say acronym.  There Is No Spoon = TINS, Gourmet Game Studio = GGS, etc.  Because, inevitably (as with AGS) you end up referring to it by the acronym!

auriond

I very much prefer "There Is No Spoon" to names such as Gastronomy Games. I never thought that company names needed to actually have the product in its name. Blizzard, Sierra, and many other great game companies don't have names that have any immediate connection to games. Granted, those were established names, so you might need to start with a "There Is No Spoon Entertainment", or "TINS Entertainment" as Darth suggested, beneath your logo. As you establish your brand you could surreptiously remove that and just be known as TINS.

There Is No Spoon is catchy, and if your games are in the same line as The Matrix then I don't see the problem.

You could even have a catchphrase like "Serving delicious games since 2000!"

One thing though: if your games are Matrix-like, then you might want to consider changing the font. Right now it looks quite whimsical, and doesn't bring to mind science fiction or whatever that genre is.

How does one define when a fork is upside down? To me there's no top or bottom :S

Atelier

Less upside-down than topsy-turvy. To me it looks like the fork's curve is convex not concave, giving the impression it is laid wrong. But that's just crit to the extreme. :=
