Hello. If anyone of you would be so kind as to comment, critiize, and/or in extreme cases, do paintovers of the following tiles I've made. I've drawn countless grass-tiles, and think that I'm becoming slightly better at it, but that's for you to decide if my work is worth shit or not.

Note that the leaves on the tree are not entirely complete, or actually the surrounding tiles aren't. Also, some adjustments could probably be made. It's my first try at making a tree in this style, and the leaves are probably the big issue here.

Hmm... on a closer look the grass looks crappy compared to the trunk. I think I've made the contrast between leaf and grass too big. Oh well, YOU tell me what's wrong.

The green kinda makes my eyes hurt, The tree is ok, just the grass is a bit waaay too bright I think.

id like to see the in game screenshot. I think they look very good, and would definitly like to see more. it sort of reminds me of zelda games, but its a bit hard to tell from just these small parts.

tree looks awesome. leaves and grass are easily differentiable, so I say, keep it up and let us see!
- Oh great, I'm stuck in colonial times, tentacles are taking over the world, and now the toilets backing up.
- No, I mean it's really STUCK. Like adventure-game stuck.

We'll see. I made this for practise. I'veever only completed one game. I've been working more on the tree and made a new grass-tile since this image. I'll do some moretiles and maybe puzzle a background out of it, and then postit here. Dirt is my biggest weakness, but I've been reading tutorials, so I think I'll make it.

I would like to comment on this tileset since I've been bussy pixeling tilesets just recently.

It's good piece. Maybe saturation is little too high but it depends on rest of the graphics. I would definatelly reccomend to add some shading on the tree because when I saw the picture for the first time I was like: "Ohh, wonderful dirt road through grass!" Then I took a closer look to find out that it's actually a tree. But it's partly due to the fact the picture is chopped. Anyway, some more shading would be nice.Ã,

Now the grass tiles. They are quite good, only when put together, repeating texture is visible.

It's because of certain distinct elements which are located in corners of the tile. Here's what I mean:

(There is a couple more of these bold pixels but you see what I'm talking about.)

Get rid of these and that's it.

I know, I have a long way to go. I'm not following tile boundaries with the can nor the trees, but it's just a quick demonstration of what it looks like. Thanks for the tip Jaz, I'll be sure to remove them by next update

Take that hump off the left portion of the tree trunk, its alot lighter and jutting.
Heres a screen from my semi-abandoned ags rpg. To do that dirt tile I just filled a square with random blobs of browns then I used diffuse, added noise, and sharpen.

I'm sure it's easy to use filters, but I won't take that path this time, or I'll NEVER learn to draw properly :'(

Very nice. I decided to make a paintover, although this isn't even close to "extreme case" as you said it. Hope you don't mind.

Perspective edit:
You're using a simple rpg style where objects are viewed from bird's perspective. The tree's roots are drawn in such way, but the rest isn't. I broke it down into simple shapes so you can see what I actually changed. I also added a lightsource to the south-east part of the tree to make it a bit more interesting.

Color edit:
The tree's foliage and grass colors were blending too much, so I reduced the grass' saturation (probably too much), and created a simple shadow to give it some depth.

I hope this edit helps you, keep in mind that it was made in a very short time.

Thanks for thosecomments, and thanks for the paintover. I appreciate it. You have given me some clues and pointers on how to advance. I'll be sure to take these suggestions into conideration in the future.
