Does this look like a man?

Hi all. Again I throw my sketches in here to see if they are up to par. I've got a deal going in another forum where I am drawing folks rpg characters, and I drew this one up for a guy, and was told she looked like a male to female transexual. Ouch, eh? Was wondering your opinions, and maybe some pointers as always. Thanks.

Beyond the normal issues I have, I know the left eye and face are kinda wonky, but it's always good to discuss these things.

Maybe wider shoulders? It looks like more of a manly woman then a man being a woman. Many fighter type characters can look manly because they have manly traits. At a last resort add a 5 o'clock shadow.

Imo, the chin is too big and the jaw-bone could be smoother or smaller.
A thinner neck would make her look more feminie.
I think smoothing out the cheek or lower it some would help too.

EDIT: I made a hasty paintover, hope you dont mind, with my suggestions.. Maybe its too anime.

EDIT2: Some pointer on the face anatomy, the ear should be more to the right.
In general you can say that the mouth should be on the 1/3(first third???) between the nose and chin (the 1/3 closer to the nose that is).

Heh, no no. I don't want her to look like a man, but after drawing it was told that she did...heh.

I agree with zynds edit, the female chin line is more angular then that flat one you gave her. Maybe a shorter neck too?

Hmm, good drawing, it reminds me of Shadowrun character drawings. I used to play paper-and-pencil RPGs a lot, but nowadays (and here in the States) I don't know of anyone who would play (also in may age group :)  )

I'd change the hands a bit, they look too manly. Women have smaller hands with smoother curves, not such hard corners. I lack the skill to do any meaingful paintover.

Anatomy isn't my thing at all, but ive given it a go:

Basically i just think its lacking the shape and subtleties to suggest its a woman. Smaller hands, dainty shoulders, thinner arms, curvy waist etc. I also think the face is too long and muscular as mentioned. Ive adjusted the post slightly too. Hope it helps.

Hm.. i think she certainly looks like a woman. Maybe not a very pretty one, but woman nonetheless. I think that's your style- hard and rough.. and it works.
However, you could go with Zyndikate's subtle edit on her face. It's still your style but more elegant.

Dan's edit certainly is the most feminine, so if the guy wants pretty girl, it's the way to go. I'm just not sure if it will fit your style.

Revan

in my opinon it looks like a man in drag......... you need to make the chin less manley.... more feminin........

Haddas

She looks like she has implants. They are too round.

Afflict

OK well the chin, as mentioned by many..
That eye is very wonky but you knew that...
Now lets get to the good stuff, her breasts are way to low!
nothing that perky can be on your stomach... Bring them up a little the size just looks funy because they that low, which in turn makes the upper torso about a centimetre to long.
Lastly her hands dont look feminine IMO

Neutron

some notes on comparative male/female facial anatomy:
1) female jaw and chin are smaller
2) female forehead is rounder, and brow is less pronounced
3) females cheek bones are fuller, rounder, and extend down the face farther
4) female mouth is closer to tip of nose
5) females eyes are slightly closer together, and tend to have a prettier shape than male eyes.
6) female lips tend to be more 'pouty'
7) female hairline is slightly lower down the forehead
...well, that's all i can think of at the moment,....

Revan

Coludnt resist adding colour... lol erm... made the chin more feminin

Afflict

I dont know I like zindikates chin more...

Yeah, I agree. Your drawing has great style. I'm a fan of your artwork.Ã,  I would go with zyndikate's subtle edit on the chin, and perhaps a bit more shapely on the waist.

I'm curious did you draw that with pencils and then flashify it, or direct with an art tablet?

Evil

"I drew this one up for a guy, and was told she looked like a male to female transexual."

Hah, I took it as you were drawing a transexual for someone. You never know with some of those RPG players.

Well, I would pull the top of the nose in some so it's not so "Roman", is that the term?

It recesses right at the eye. That might help with some of the length of the face.

Okay, sorry about not replying until now, I was just hoping to have something to show before I wasted another post.

Ionias
Thank you. I draw in pencil and then ink with micron pens, so no flash here heh. The inking is easily the longest part of the process though.

I took a step back and realized that the face was way too manly as mentioned, I screwed around with the guy I drew the pic for and said this one was the edit:

But when you see it like that, it's painfully clear that he/she is a manly d00d.

I have been hitting the anatomy book hard the last few days, and here is my new attempt. Thanks everyone for the crits, you all help me to understand and improve my art, and if it wasn't for this awesome forum, I would be much worse.

Of course, just a sketch at this point, any more crits?

Afflict

SHE my dear Squinky looks like a ... Woman  :D

Concept art looks good thus far!

Great work, practicing and studying anatome never is a bad thing.

Some c&c on the new picture:
1.The chin is still a little square for my taste, try to think curves when drawing someone fenimin.
2.The hair should be a little lower also, the forehead looks small atm.
3.I dont know If you went for a CRAZY look, if you did, great work in the eyes, could been a little smaller i think. If you didnt, try to contact the pupils wits the eyelash (if you understand my poor english)
4.Think i longered the nose a bit, the mouth was a little to much down.

Here is a paintover with the suggestions from above:

the body anatomy looks ok. Keep up the good work, it will pay off :>
This is all my opinion, if you dont agree its np :P

Yup, the woman in the sketch is actually slightly attractive!

You got the female shape down a lot better.

One eye is bigger than the other though, no? (unless intentional, although whenever I draw a human I always bodge up one eye)

edit: I see that zyndicate changed the eye shape!
