This scene is for mine and Dont tread on me 's FoA follow-up game to be titled Indiana Jones and His African Adventures or IJHAA. "Dont tread on me" drew out thisÃ,  scene and I am currently using FoA textures to go over it. I am VERY happy with the sky and havent done much else yet. What I really want help with is the odd-ness of the tents. Yes I know that the closest one looks like it has a deformed "S" and I don't know what made me do that but it looks wrong. Please help! Paint overs welcome!

P.S. the things in the black are textures I am using

i hope i speak for the 57 people that have read this so far

Very nice indeed. Just put some more details, textures and some shading and it will become a very good background. :)

The perspective on the concrete house looks pretty messed up to me

The S shaped highlight is not quite right, instead of using highlights on this side of the tent why not just use shadows instead.  And for the shape, just go with a sheet that is draping down and put a couple folds in it like you did for the other tent.

I'm not going to do a paintover because from the sky, you seem to know what you're doing, you've got the textures, this image is a bit too small to work with and you seem to have a plan for how to apply the textures.  I'll do a paintover AFTER you've hit the wall.

José Luiz

The style isn't (yet) the same as FoA, but I'm sure it'll gradually become very near the original. The sky is excellent!

Don't forget to post new edits of this background. It's a very nice work!

Hey, that sky texture is looking great! Developing well ;) (and my isnt that outline wonderful  :))

The tents like everyone else said i would do both similar to the one furthest away, the near one with the S shape looks a little odd.
You mentioned that the mountains needed more flavor so i had a little go at the one on the left using the palet from one of your texture, im debating wether it came out alright or appalingly.

As for the wierd perspective on the bunker I felt it looked a little odd (the scene was made from a sketch and i know i should use vanishing points but im too lazy) but i cant quite place whats wrong with it.

Looking at it now the far left corner is lower than the others, im guessing thats what you meant, ill have a look at it.

Many thanks and good work - Rich

Yes, I think you are well on your way to making a very nice FOA styled background.

Taffy, did you ever get that private message with all the links, that I sent you?
- Oh great, I'm stuck in colonial times, tentacles are taking over the world, and now the toilets backing up.
- No, I mean it's really STUCK. Like adventure-game stuck.

I added the mountains and fixed up the tents. I also started a corregatted tin thing on the bunker but I don't know if I is good so I didn't do it all. Feed back pease!
Oh and I like the mountains like that Dont tread on me. Try to do the other side too!!

Well i did the rest of the mountains, and sorry for your wasted work on that bunker, but i fixed the perspective (I'm pretty sure i did any way)

The only otehr thing i did was lower the contrast between the folds in the tent and the rest of it, they arent quite as strinking now.

Thanks - Ricjh

edit: methinks my server is screwing around... I also spelt my name wrong... Im stupid

Sorry if this comes across as being negative, but you do realise there already is an FOA sequel in progress. (at least, I think it's a sequel...)

Gilbert

Actually I won't call any of them FOA sequels, they can just be called, in general, Indiana Jones Fan Adventure Games.
However, since there was a well known Indiana Jones Official Adventure game titled FOA, it's also okay to just call such fan games sequels of FOA, as it's clear that they'd be Indy fan games in the adventure genre like FOA.

Personally I don't find any problem in people developing two different fan games at the same time, it's just a problem for the respective copyright holders.

Raider

Just one thing to point out.
The shading on the bunker is off a bit. If you look at the shadow of the tree on the left, the shadow goes directly to the left. The bunker's shadow slants down a tad. It looks really good, I can't wait to play the game. :)

Yes I knew that there are actually two Indiana Jones fan games in progress. We are just working on this because we want to make our own tribute to FoA.

I still need some feedback on the texture for the bunker. I think it looks ok but I don't know if that is the right thing to do.

I disagree with the whole "must texture, or its no good, must use graduation, or its no good, must anti-aliase, or its no good" thing. admitedly, hand painted backrounds ARE the best. and a a very clever handleing of Painter and photoshop allow for supremly good looking backrounds. Few of us can afford these hi-end programs though. As well, super detaled backrounds can be confusing in lo-res 320/200-40, Mi2 case in point.a crisp well done backround can be done inÃ,  ms-paint.Ã,  I'm not the best at this but I hope this example helps, it more colourful then your work, but a done, correct perspective, backround is better then a backround never done.

I know that a background doesn't have to be super-fancy to be a great peice of art. We are just trying to get things as close to Lucas-Arts "style" as possible.

I have worked out the problems with the bunker by making it a square building. I also started to do some texturing on the path... You like? I like!

Edit: The image is being dumb so I had to thumb nail.

DontTreadOnMe

The path is looking good. But Im not all that keen on the bunker, I was thinking more of a concrete bunker. Also when you altered it you seem to have confused a few lines. The doo of the bunker is meant to be sunk in, however in the changes you made the curved lines should be removed and the door should no longer be sunk in. As it is it looks like there are 2 pieces of corrugated iron sticking out, but the rest of the lines dont work with this.

I would also start getting rid of the black outlines to keep with the FOA style.

Just keep at it, whatever works, its getting better evry time you post - Rich

I'm no expert but I think if you are going for the FoA style, you should add texture to the paths and landscape like you have the sky and mountains.
(That is if you are going for that style)

Scummbuddy

raider, he's working on that. its not done yet. heh.

and just as long as I dont notice that green vine/line repeating on the pathway, then it will be fine. Having it show once would be fine.
