Gate of Heaven, pls give critics and suggestions.. :)

Hi all,

I am very new to drawing and painting, so I need a lot of feedback, critics, and suggestions on my drawing.. drawn using GIMP

The colors are clashing between the icy gate and clouds, but those are the colors i like

, so, i'm not sure how to fix it..

To differentiate the gates from the backdrop, perhaps a pixel or two of darker shadows to the gate bars, to give a sense of an outline. Otherwise, it's very washed-out and it all blends together.

I like the idea, and you are off to a good start.

As TerranRich said, try to define the gate more with some darker outline to make it pop out more.

If it is supossed to be an "icy" gate u could also try do add some icicles wich will also help to seperate the gate from the clouds.

You could also add something behind the gate in the distance, a reason to why anyone would want to pass trough the gate.

Dont know what you are gona do with the picture after it's done. But i would have reduced the width of the picture to get rid of allot of the empty space to the sides, mabe move the gate a bit more downards on the canvas and make more focus on the gate itself.

Anyway, good work, keep it up!

Well to me it just looks like a normal sized gate in a fence... Perhaps the spacing of the bars should be reassessed? Because if the gates are as large in your picture as they're generally pictured in popular culture, then it looks like it's possible to just slip through the bars

This all depends on how big or small your characters are though.

p.s. I also agree that an outline would help the gates to 'pop' out from the surroundings, as the others suggested, although instead of shadows, you could also try some gold light falling upon them from behind.

Hi all.. thanks a lot for your comments and suggestions so far..

TerranRich: I try to give some light outline to the gate, but I'm not sure it's good enough, seems not very neat, or maybe my tracing is not very neat..

i'll improve it again..

Stochie: Yes, i'll add more object on it.. and i'll still looking for icicles references..

Scarab: I'm not so sure if the gold light you mentioned is refer to a sunshine.. but I try to put some sunshine light behind the gate, between the sky and the cloud at the behind..

Pls let me know which one need to improve more..
