I have trouble with female sprites on account of all the curvy bits (which are awesome by the way) so I decided to practice and have a go at spriting a sexy zombie lady (based on Sylvanas Windrunner) in a non-straight pose..

I went for a kind of slanty hip type pose with the weight on a single leg but she just looks like shes unfit and slouching.

Also I find faces very difficult so any tips there would be helpful too.

I would like help to get better. ^_^

My sprite:

and here's a link to my reference (the one on the right)

The mighty elf seeking help? ;D  I'm just kidding. Is this for episode 2?

Don't know if you measured but her torso (I mean the part of the body that's not limbs or head) seems a bit too long. I think the part between the breasts and the belly button is a bit too stretched.

Are you going for the reference or for the contrapost stand? Your reference is under a strange angle, looks something between a hero (the leg part) and the hips are in the "seductive" stance.
You probably know this but the line connecting the shoulders should be mirror reverse from the line connceting the hips - turn this 90 degrees clockwise  /  \  (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contrapposto)

Also for that pose, you might want to make the feet look towards the camera (helps with pronouncing the curves as well).

As far as I can tell, her left leg is the one she has her weight on, so that one should be firm and straight (and feet pointing towards the viewer). The other one doesn't have the weight of the body on it (from a drawing point of view) so you might wanna put her right leg at an angle (I do it mostly cause it's easier to show it's slightly bended at the knee.
What you get is that her right leg is "shorter" so make it look like she's on her toes (or wearing heels)...

For added seductivnes, try to shape the figure so it looks like her spine has the shape of an elongated ~. Maybe even turn/rotate the chest area a bit so one breast starts to affect the silhouette (will make her seem "curvier").

Face...I don't know, maybe more contrast between colours....

It's actually not for mccarthy.. just for practice.

and yes I was going for a contra pose but at such a low resolution it's difficult to do that without it seeming 'wonky'... one pixel is a huge amount to shift those shoulders up or down..

I'll experiment with what you've suggested though.

(feet suck at this res)

EDIT:

ok how about this? The legs still look very unattractive to me... she looks dopey.. not sexy and dangerous.

Anatomy really isn't my thing, but here's some stuff that caught my eye:

-Took the sharp angle off the arms
-Made legs longer and torso shorter
-Added depth to head
-Tried to get more contrast with the shading (although didn't change your palette)
-Various other stuffs

- stole Brentimous' leg
- forgot to steal Ben's arm ;D
- added more contrast to your colours
- different haircut and ears
- fixed some of the anatomic problems

edit: added ProgZmax' golden 6 1/2 head rule for women :)

I like what Ben did, the elgs and stance modifications, and the face seems better. Maybe mix it with the anatomical corrections abs made.
