Your time has not been lost! Never think of it like that. The only way to learn how to do something you don't know how to do, or get better at it, is to do it! Your character has good potential.

I did a quick paintover ito show you some things that you can improve on. I am not much of an artist, so keep that in mind!

I de-saturdated the colours and changed the skin colour, made some minor shape changes (try not to make people symetrical, it's a bit boring) and did a bit of shading.

Don't save in JPEG format because it decreses quality a lot. Use PNG or BMP.

Hope this helps you!

The problems with this character really come into play with the side view.  It seems like the waist is too high.  It's like the belt is choking his stomach instead of keeping his pants up, ya know?

His arms aren't the correct length, or what I mean is the forearm seems much too short to me, or the elbow is at the wrong place.  Also the shoulder seems too far from the back.  I could go on but the bottom line is that a simple look at yourself in the mirror will solve most of these problems.  Make the stance you want him in yourself, and make note of things.

Anyway I tried a paintover, I'm not the best character artist and there are still problems.  I do much better when I get to start from scratch :)

And yes, this IS a paintover of your guy, but I got really bored...

Here it is a little bigger:

Lolz, obviously his legs still don't look that great. Meh ^^

Please don't post images in JPG format, primarily because the compression causes artifacting and blending and makes editing or commenting on your work more difficult.  Use a lossless format like GIF for 8-bit images or PNG for 8-bit and up.

Thanks!

Sorry; i posted it in JPG just to make it smaller.

I saw the paintovers of my character and im very sure that im not an artist. I dont like MSPaint and it dont like me  ::) Maybe i must try with only-text games  ;D

Akatosh

Maybe not. I'm not exactly talented either, but I declared crappy drawings my "style" and it seemed to work  ;)

No, seriously. I think with some work, you can get somewhere.

This is true do not give up on art and it wont give up on you
Practice is king in this world of Game creation
And dont think that you either have it or you don't cause it is not like that at all

The image you supplied to begin with is fantastic to say that it is your first character,
fair enough the lighting of the pants aint "correct" but the structure is fine

Tip:   check the forums for tutorials on shading and design
Try the competitions to see what other people are doing and brush up on your own ideas, why not enter and see if you can get some prizes.

See guys this is why i beleive the colouring ball is a great competition

Oh and one more thing don't throw yourself in with really detailed characters coz when you get to animating them you will loose interest and get sour

Keep on trying Sin

PS take a look at medical wastes attempt   notice he only uses 3 colours per part   e.g the shirt has 3 reds etc   and whatsmore its really effective
Currently working on a project!

Don't be so hard on yourself. You did a pretty good job for a first time. Everyone goes through the process of learning. Just don't give up  ;)
