Im making a game, but really really suck at walking cycles :( If someone wants to help a poor game-maker out, please let me know. This is the first character i need a walkcycle on.

Krysis

U sure dont lose time. Anyway I suck at animating. Good luck.  ;)

Time is money... or something like that anyway :P Dont seem to be many people wanting to help anyway. :P But ill wait

I'd help but I have to figure out how to make a goose walk using the world's crappiest Photoshop knockoff...  :-[

You know, perhaps you ought to make one bda anim, so that we could comment it... the basic idea is how smoothly you wan't him to move. I usually use 7-8 depending on how it looks.
-the standing frame
-preparing to head his leg onwards
-his leg stretched out while other is staying behind
-then the foot tends to hit the ground having no escape from the torso, now you realize that the other one is conscious again and ready to go
-the balance is forwards as the other leg starts to invade the frontal knee-headed, at the point the other leg is still amazed by it's own punity and stands fairly straight
-finally you realize that the other leg is about to do what the other couldn't, eventually failing in it.This way it carries on until you stop.

I reckon that the leg you start with is irrelevant, though it is said to reflect the persons mentality. Try standing still pretending you are the guy that you want the character to be. The start onwards and see which leg goes first :D

Addotional frames make the movement smooth, but sometimes too smooth and they are harder to draw. Too many frames often lead to exaggerating movements...

Well i dont have any programs that can be used to animate so what should i do? :P

Tuomas

Neither do I.... hmmm, let's see... Well you could possibly get one, or just send the frames in the same pic, so that we could see how it looks, and there's always a fair soul who will make them animate ;)

Andail

Publish all the frames in the walkcycle and I or someone else will add some life to it

Tuomas

See I told you!!! Then perhaps you Andail would share with us the secret of making the loops... I know you need some program, but is there any that would be free to use? I mean if I was willing to send an animating loop here instead of the whole pic that is...

vict0r

Okay, i'll try but please dont expect... well... anything :P Ill do my best :P

vict0r

Well... this is my rather... pathetic result :P You may say that i should use more time making it but it probably wont be any better :P try to put it together to something if you may.

Tuomas

Hey, that actually is pathetic!!! and bad if it comes to that... You reckon that the left (ours) foot doesn't go up like the right one does... But not to that :P

soooo, I made this once.... for a game, a bigger one that we are on at the moment, I belong to an indie group. So you get a prewiew, I don't think it's forbidden. Although this is not the final version, it's still a front cycle... PAy attention to the shadin of his feet exspecially... and note that the whole char. does some movement.

Note that when you use him with the AGS he well became alive... I don't know a site where I could upload the char.file but either import the sprites os so... Best would be to open this picture with some MSpaint or so in order to see the pixels without the fuzz

vict0r

Thanks, ill try :'(  :P But meanwhile i do so, if there are anyone who wants to help me, please give me a notice instead of just looking at this post and going to another :P

Not a bad animation at all, but his body may be swaying a bit too much.  Other than that, you got yourself a workable animation.

vict0r

This looks really good :D Could you possibly make some "quick" sideways and up walking animations if i draw the main sprite? ???  :)

It might look as if it swings, but as you place it in a game and move it about the swinging effect disappears.. Ever tried walking without moving? it looks always odd
