This was originally made for the Sprite Jam, but I went a little overboard on colors and don't have a mind to reduce 100 colors from it ;)

This is a bit of a departure from my usual style in that I let loose the colors a little more, and the process was a little different. I started with a sketch and a couple reference pics from magazines, then moved on from there.  It's not supposed to be any one person in particular, but in my mind it was something of George Harrison mixed with John Lennon and John Sebastian

In particular, the hands/arms and the shirt are giving me the most grief.  Any help?  I don't plan on entering this in the jam anymore, so this is legal.  ;)

(Edit:)

Still not happy with parts of it.  See bottom post

ManicMatt

Woah that's great!

Is his nose supposed to be that big?

I don't have much to say being an amateur, just had to say "woah!" :)

Hmm the trousers.. something wrong there people? Can't put my finger on it..

For me, the lighter bits in his hair don't look like the right colour? Am I right people?

People?

Best graphical Helm I've ever damn seen!

Seriously though, that is one awesome sprite :)

How could you improve it? I don't think you can :D

NICE!
I can say enough good things about it,you did a great job man.
definitely a hippy with a guitar. Will he be singing a song about a tree?
;)

That's just beautiful! The only thing that looks a bit odd to me is his thumb.

Tuomas

It looks great at first sight. I'd look into a couple of things thoug. He's playing or holding the guitar is a bit aggressive. I mean, his shoulders are high and tense. Then, most people lean towards the neck of the guitar to reach better. At that, the right arm, the one on the neck is abit too small, the elbow is gone, and the sleeve should be in front more. I mean, it appears as if it was behind the chest...

Then the thumb and the trousers. About the trousers, I think what bothers ManicMatt is how the left sleeve folds near the foot. If you get my point.

The guitar seems to be lagging the saddle, I think... And you could make it look cool with an inlay on the hole...

Edit:

Thanks to everybody, particularly Tuomas, for the critiques/compliments.

Changes should be obvious.  However, a few things still bugging me:
- Both hands
- The jean fold Matt mentioned
- Shirt folds

Any more suggestions?

OuchMyTentacle79

maybe a bong next to him?

A great looking sprite! To address some of your questions:

- His left hand seems to have a "floating" finger.
- I don't play guitar, but shouldn't his right hand be closed, with thumb and index finger extended to stroke the strings? Or is he plucking at them? I don't know, I could be totally off.
- I think his left upper arm is too short, especially if you compare it with his other upper arm. I think his elbow should come down almost to his lap, with his lower arm angling back up to the guitar.

I just found this with some pictures of holding a guitar. Might be useful as a reference.

Tuomas

That's one hellova way to play C6, but sounds pretty good imo. I think I'll compose a song on this, even though I know a lot of easier ways to play it... Or is the thumb pressing the F# as the bass note? I f so, then I give up. :)

I see you've done some improvement. THe only thing that bothers me is the left arm, maybe you should try moving the arm so that the armpit, or where the sleeve goes was closer to neck or so, one can always try...

Look at Escobar's hands when he plays.Classical guitarists tend to never use guitar picks(they use all fingers for picking.)they spreite is amazing.Cheers

True indeed, playing classical guitar with a pick is considered raping the guitar. At least in my opinion. *Even though* The guitar in question is a steel guitar most often played with a pick, thus the pick guard etc.

I really like your sprite a lot. I am a big George Harrison fan, and he does have some resemblance.....

This sprite is one of the coolest i've seen so far. If you manage to animate it as good as it looks, you've got a winner!  ;D

Thanks for the comments.  I've been trying to fix his left arm, but can't find a better position.  This sprite might be far enough along anyway - I don't want to spend too long on it.  More crits are certainly welcome, though.

As for the right hand, I play guitar myself.  It's fine for him to not use a pick.

excuse my pissed ranting.

Awesome sprite, maybe clean up a few pixels here and there. It depends what sort of bg style you're going for really.

and what ever happened to our project 'ey Tiki?
