Im almost done with this background, but Ive got several problems:
1) I cant make the temple wall.
2) I cant make the flower less-realistic

If someone can help me, he's welcome.
EDIT: Since my backgrounds look more like indy 3, Ill use this style

Hey

For the flower..
I'd suggest using the draw tool (or similar one pixel wide brush, depending on what you use) and on a second layer, trace the out of the flower, petals and stem.. no need to be to precise.
Secondly color this second layer in with pink for flower, green for stalk - just the two colors.
Then on a third layer (i like layers, they're not essential.. just easier)..  third layer, using a slightly lighter color than the previous pink/green, draw in the larger gaps on color, avoiding edges.

a. should be the out line, dark color.
b. should be the medium color block.
c. should be the bright, highlighted section.

Obviously, it's not square, this is just a bad example of what i mean.  Hopefully, you get the jist.

I updated the image a bit, but it still doesnt seem right.

Vel

I updated it again, but I can paint the wall. Can anyone help?

Miez

Why don't you pick up the colours of the existing wall (wit an eyedropper tool) and trace over the scanned wall?

What wall? You mean the one abouve the flower?

EDIT: I tried. It doesnt seem right.

Neole

Try using the watercolor filter in photoshop on the whole painting and then putting the modifications on top. That should remove the photorealism.

Vel

Can someone else do that, 'cause I dont have photoshop?

Neole

I used watercolor then smudged it with the smudge tool than used watercolor again. Looks messy now.

Vel

sorry neole, but Im after FOA style

Neole

Then Miez is the right guy for advise, not me!

if you're after FOA style, i suggest doing a lot of it pixel by pixel ;)

Vel

Thats what i did... so far. But I cant paint the wall

I would just skip the flower. No matter how right you get it, it doesn't look right.

I havent modified the flower a bit since my first post. Im waiting Iqu to do a tutorial.

Hey

Here follows my incompetent bodging of a perfectly good tutorial..

Original Image..

Using layers, block color the parts of the flowers.

Using a darker color, shade in the darkest parts.

Using a color in between the last two, blend in the shades.

Then using a lighter color, add some highlights to it.

Then using the brush (5x5 pixels), with a low density setting paint over the flower with a darker color.. This should add some texture to it.  Set opacity to less than 100.

It should come out looking like a kinda hand painted thing.

Um..  on reading thru your recent posts, I'm not a 100% that it's Indy-esque, but it doesn't look photo-realistic anymore..  which is what you asked me.

You can also zoom in and fiddle individual pixels you think look wrong far easier than a photo.

Also, for some reason the enlarged version look anti aliased.  They shouldn't.  It should also only have 5 colors for the flower and 5 for the leaves..

It looked better while I was doing it.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

Xadhoom

Looks good so far.
About the flower, how about just painting it out of the picture? You could replace it with a bush or something.
