Heya guys. Conscidering eveybody is using reference for the current sprite j(h)am, i thought i would give it a go too. So i needed a reference pic and i went and searched. And look what I found at the cgtalk forums ... two pics by two fellow members here, a green knight by ninjas (creator of How to be a ninja) and a black knight by mordalles (creator of Mordy 2 )!!Ã,  ;D Great work guys. So i wanna make sprites of them and put them here under c&c. (HOPE you two don't mindÃ,  ;D)

Hey. That is awesome! I really admire your pixel art and can't wait to see what you do with the concept.

I think the black knight looks great. I think you really nailed the concept.

thanks ninjas :) i'm really looking forward to your drawing your knight, cause its so freaking professional and detailed.  ;D

People, i'd really also (other than armour colouring, etc.) like to know how one can add detail such as battle scrathes & marks, i suck at armour.

ElementalWhite

The heavy armor on the knight makes him look impenetrable an interesting concept... What would a black knight look like if he was more lithe and agile like a ninja? Sounds like contest material to me.

I think he looks brilliant. One thing I would do though is shift his head one or two pixels east!

Good job.

DonB

Sickin' good, respect!

Like Eyebag said, 2 pixels to the right with the head, and it's all good!

Thanks guys. I did a paintover myself to make the lines more gradient with the colouring and made the armour shinier.

You guys are right, i'll shift him right two pixels or so.

Here is my first attempt at ninjas' green knight.

Mordalles

wow, buloght, those sprites are excellent. and im really honoured that u wanna do my char as a sprite. and i dont mind at all.
i really like the newer version. the shadows are great. still missing a bit of rust and scratches, but that will be hard to do with pixel's i guess.

the sprite of ninjas' excellent painting is excellent. so much detail. im jealous of ure sprites and of ninjas painting.  ;D

thanks mordalles.

I'll try and add some rust and scratches and put it back up for c&c.

Really awesome. Well done. I think I like the black night with the darker segment lines, although black may have been too dark. The shinier armor does look better!

Wow, that ninja is very good too, way too good to have me comment it in a bad way.. anywayz.. i like the new version of ur dark night (with darker underlines and all), but I still think the head ain't perfectly located on the body..

Hollister Man

My first impression of the green knight is that he's topheavy, those lower legs are downright skinny.  Even 1 pixel in the lower legs might help.

I would personally move the black knight's face (just his facial features) to the left by a pixel or two.

Otherwise, they're absolutely great!

i updated the dark knight at the top. I only shifted his head one pixel east.

I also changed the greenknight so that his chestplate looks more rounded as it is in the painting reference. Its very faint but i could maybe make it more rounded (more defined) ?

thanks for comment. I intentionally made his legs like that with a heavier upper body. I tried (IMO) to make a style that would suite the concept in the painting.

Krysis

I love the green guy. Maybe you should add a bit more space for his eyes. And the sword's dark outlike looks a inconsictent. Other than that its one of the grrreatest sprites around.

thanks for comments krysis. I'll see if i can do something more with his eyes. It suppose to be teeth holes in the helmet through which he sees (like in painting). So its hard with that few pixel. I'll play around with the sword some more. Thanks, since you are one of the greatest spritests around  ;)

Here is my next knight. Sir Gawain. I'll put the painting reference at the top.

Hi, buloght!

I love the black and the green knight, and your Gawain is very good, too, but he seems to be a bit too bright to me.

cheers

Sir Gawain looks scared!  ;D

I would just say that he is standing in a weird position, neither a fighting position nor a normal/relaxed pos.
He looks lika a statue...and maybe you could lower his eyebrows so he doesn't look scared?..

great job!
QuoteWell, one think is not liking him, and the other is making humour of the retarder people!

Haddas

Nothing else. but he's tiny compared to the other knight with tha dark armour

Igor

Nice work! Must say green knight is my favorite. Solid posture and body construction.

You did a great job with the green knight, buloght.  The issue I see with the other two is that (to me) they seem a bit wide.  Take Sir Gawain's right pauldron (shoulder armor).  It's at least the width of his head and nearly dislocated from his torso.  I haven't seen the reference image so ignore me if the drawing looked like this, but I think he would look alot better if you brought that arm in more and reduced the width of the pauldron by 4-5 pixels.  His head would also benefit from a 2-4 width reduction.  Also, you might consider more contrast between fleshtones since right now your second shade is quite close to the brightest one.  A somewhat darker tone around his jaw would define his face more and set it apart from the neck.  Again, I think you did an excellent job with the green knight and you are definitely going in the right direction.
