Drawken

I've been working on this since yesterday. It's obviously not finished.
I was just wondering how it looks so far before I continue.
Any critique would be helpful.
Thanks.

Updated progress

I finally found a tutorial on pixeling skin. I'm quite pleased the way her head turned out. I also redid her hair to have tighter curls.
I rendered the right boot.
I made her basket a little bit bigger.
I thought framing the pic into a book would give it a nice look.
I styled the book a little like one of the "Into the Woods" logos.

Here are some pics I'm using as reference.

By the way, this isn't for a game. I'm just experimenting with pixel art.
My brother is currently in a production of "Into the Woods" as Jack. The costume designs are really neat, so I sketched Red's costume. My Pixeljoint account is kind of lonely, so I decided to pixel her for my gallery.
My brother's costume, as Jack, will be next.
<First time placing in a Sprite Jam. Neato.

What a cute blondie.  ;)
Maybe you could lower her hair line, because she looks a bit bald. I think the cape is fine.

Ghost

It's a top quality sprite, Drawken. Good shading, no need to add another tone to the cape. All I would do is turn the right foot (her right, not mine) so that it is almost "front view", but even that is only a suggestion.
The basket could use a bit more outline, though- it's the only thing in the sprite that doesn't look quite right.

Nikolas

This is a sprite? Isn't she a tad.. tall? 293 pixels height? You will be using her as a sprite or some kind of concept art, or some kind of cutscene?

I know almost nothing of coding, but all sprites I've seen in AGS games were around 100 pixels tall max!

Other than that she looks quite lovely!

Ghost

A sprite is an image with a transparent background that's used to be blended over another image ("blitted"). Size doesn't matter, even if it is pixel work, pre-rendered stuff etc isn't of importance. Insofar it is a sprite.
(Lecture over)  ;D

Animating her in that size and that quality would, however, prove a hard task, so I think cutscene material, too.

You definetly have style, but this is what I would do:

* Much stronger contrast to face/skin shading!
* Remove nose. Or replace with something discreet, like a tiny horisontal line.
Nose is what usually feels worst about female face, and it's much easier to make cute face by skipping the nose... like in manga drawings. Though, I don't know if your intention was cuteness anyway.
* Rounder jaw. Sharp jaw looks... witch-like.
* Darker eye line. Like, black.
* Pink lipstick. Don't get me wrong, but your character looks like an aged prostitute with lips like this. For a young girl, the closer to the skin color, the better.
* Might be an illusion due clothing, but upper arms look terribly short.

And that's about it. What else could be trimmed a bit, is her ear. It sticks out a bit too much...

Tuomas

Something about her face that makes her look more like 20 to me. Or the hookerboots. Perhaps the head should be rounder, dunno. Oh, and her hands seem to short imo.

radiowaves

Its not paritculary face problem, its more about the head. Child head is bigger, look some photographs. I also suggest you to hichlight the tip of the nose because small things like that can give a lot to it.
I am just a shallow stereotype, so you should take into consideration that my opinion has no great value to you.

Evil

Shoulders are too short and her hair line, is too high for the shape of her head.

Also, Into The Woods was bad. :D
