The hidden x10 zoom helps me out alot with tiny areas.

The what?! ???

Akumayo

Ya' know, the hidden times 10 zoom for MSPaint?  Try it out!  Go to the zoom menu, where it says:
x1
x2
x6
x8

Press on the pixel right below times eight, but not off the menu yet, it takes a few tries, but x10 is there.  There's also a x4, but to get to it, you have to hit the magnifying glass and click on the image BEFORE selecting a zoom rate, meaning you'll have to open a file or start a new one to deselect the current zoom rate.  x4 works well for 320x200 backgrounds.

:o Obviously I don't pay enough attention to things like that. ::)
Thanks.

EDIT: taffytom, everything Akumayo said was true.

I'm glad you guys are enjoying critiquing my character.   ;D

Akumayo

Well, at least we were on the topic of what program created your character  :D

Back to your character though, in the middle view he doesn't seem to have an ass... at all, and also in the middle view, some of the lines around him are anti-aliased, but that might be due to the format.  Also, his body seems to be different sizes, and his neck located at different heights, depending on which view you look at.

I think the head doesn't fit the style of the rest of the body. Right now he's pretty hypercephalic, even after the second version. The figure's pose looks a bit manga, too. Too many different styles mixed together, I think. Not to say you can't mix styles together necessarily, but in this case I think it would look better if you tried to maintain a consistant style.

Also try tweaking his hat some. I think the edges are too straight, because right now it's reminding me of Buckethead for some strange reason.

You might want to simplify the texturing a lot, too, otherwise that's going to be quite a pain to animate. I mean, imagine redrawing each frame... :P

Original:

Really quick sloppy edit:

The skin tones need a lot of work and the head should be smaller and not as frontal. Also, the hand to the left should go down as if it is relaxed. Something about its position as of now is too feminine.

Nikolas

You got your brothers talent... I'm proud of you...

*Nikolas wipes the tears of his eyes*

But ye shall never get out of HIS (BB) shadow... hahahahar

Critique: A huge difference between the two sprites you provided. The second one is sooo simple that lacks any normal human feautre really. No ass, no crotch, no... The first one is soooo detailed that it will be an ass trying to animate it (but you could keep it for concept art, or some non animated cutscene), or you could simply be mad enough to try an animate it. With lots and lots of patience it will work...

I actually like the original post. I like that he looks a bit unsaved. I like his pants. I actually do like his feminine side (why not?)

At least he has the courtesy not to post any of my musical abortions. :)

The second version looks more like a game character, that's why I like it more than the first one. Keep going on with your style, it's pretty cool ^_^.

Alright.Ã,  I've improved a bit.Ã,  Here's the latest:

A new version of Stanley (for cutscenes.  (mostly just talking):

And the playable version:

(it had seemed anti-aliased before because I made it larger.
this is actual size.)

Akumayo

I think he looks like a prepy fashion model in the cutscene version...

Still, in the playable version, his head/body height seems to change with each view.  Is this intended?
"Power is not a means - it is an end."

JRock

Yeah.  The "preppy fashion model" thing is intentional.  I wanted him to look like a stuck-up a$$hole.  It's all part of the game.  But what do you mean about the playable character?  I put all the frames together in the walking animations and they seemed alright.

Akumayo

If they look alright in walking animation, then it's no big deal, I just thought it would look like his head was changing sizes, but you've obviously either fixed this or worked around it.  Sorry to have bothered you with it.  And why make a game about a preppy fashion model?  I hope, before the game is over, that he either a.) learns a lesson, or b.) dies
;D
I dislike preps!

No you didn't. It's the premade poses in whatever doll thing you're using to make these. Just ditch the premade graphics and make everything like you did the in-game sprites. Might not look pretty but it'll be cohesive and you'll benefit lots from it.

(Saracasm kids)

Okay.Ã,  No one likes a prep, and Helm,Ã, Yes, the body is pre-made, but I created the head. (obviously because it isn't ten times too big as with before.)

So basically, what should I change (besides his head) to relieve him of the "prep" label?

(I mean, if you think about it, it's just a guy wearing a leather jacket, a white t-shirt and blue jeans.Ã,  Thats not prep.)Ã,  Ã, :-\

Tiki

Well, his clothes aren't necessarily preppy, it's the pose.

Check out Fonzie...  He has a leather jacket, too, but he isn't preppy!  :=

Do what Helm said.  Draw everything yourself, that's the only way you'll get better.
