sorry no art for crit but I was wondering if anyone has done any rotoscoping for the animation of their main characters or any other kind of rotoscoping? I understand that this is what sierra did for a lot of their SCI vga games, and I was hoping to recreate the effect. any tutorials/examples/ideas would be great.

Grundislav did some for his BJ games but...

Didn't Sierra use clay models and just do stop motion photography? The Last Express is more rotoscoping.

So do you mean taking movies of people moving and drawing over them or taking movies of people or things moving and make sprites out of them?

Yes, I still do it. It's the cheap and easy way to get out of animating!Ã,

If you'd like a tutorial, let me know, and I'll gladly make one for the next animation I do.

Also, Eric, Sierra filmed people against bluescreens and then digitzed/pixellated them.  You can see an example of this in the "making of" video that comes with the GK1 CD.

yes that would be great! I am very much interested in the techniques you used. Ie what camera - video or still, did you use a blue/green backdrop, who was the actor, how was it directed, what software, how many frames, palette etc.

thanks.

This isn't exactly a tutorial, but since Haddas had an example of rotoscoping in one of the previous threads here is the link.
