Shade

here it is front and side view. i want to keep the shading as simple as possible and i am quite happy with the side view but the front view looks just awful.

can anyone help me on this one? thanks!

fred

I think it looks decent, especially if you want to keep it simple. A few points of crit could be:

* He looks mirrored. Even with simple shading it should be possible to make the pose a bit less symmetrical.
* Ears are placed very high.
* Shoulders are a bit round.
* He's looking cross-eyed
* the feet are pointing out weird.
* The highlights on the cheeks are placed weird in the front pose.

ok changed it a bit. is it possible that his upper body is too long?
and i can't find a way to make the eyes look better or to make him look less cross-eyed without messing up his face. ???

Layabout

He does not have a very dynamic pose. His upper body is too long. Forearms are too long.

Highlights on his face are not adding anything to it.

Kill the black, use a dark grey, but not too dark.

Trousers ends do not drape over his shoes. Unless he likes wearing trousers that go above his ankles.

Face. Nose, eyes and ears lower. The pupils should be around the centre line of the head. Hair looks pretty good.

Legs apart! No one stands with their legs that close together unless they really need to pee.

You could have one hand on his hip, one relaxed, make sure the sholders aren't symmetrical. The hip shoulder should be slightly higher. Hip leg straight on, other leg to the side, about six pixels away.

Take some photos of you or a friend and copy the pose if that helps.
I am Jean-Pierre.

Just a quick paintover to give him a bit more upper body mass as he was too skinny imo. I also centered the pupils to get rid of the boss-eyed look.
I'm new to this myself so I'm sure others can help you more but i'd definately download some figure drawing e-books and give them a read... They'll be invaluable to your progress.

Shade

ok tried to follow your suggestions. and thanks for the paintover i like it!  :)

- made the upper body and arms 3 pixels shorter.
- lowered eyes and nose by 1 pixel
- tried to give him the suggested pose
- used some ideas from the paintover

Antonio

The pose is definately taking shape now and overall it's a big improvement on the first post. The next thing I would work on is the highlights on the face as they are too uniform and look a little like face paint.
Also i'd change the shoes as they look like UGG boots. I don't know any men that wear UGG boots... :o

I hope to gods that isn't your only file. Here is a tip, never, ever, save pixel art, to jpeg. It just blurs like somebody spat on your hard drive.
