here is a link to my game in the In Production Forum.  I just recently released a demo becuase I am kinda suffering noworkitus so I was wanting to get yall's comments and critques... Did you like it? did you hate? just let me know

Look great man. Although the old school MI1 type control system is pretty annoying.
ghost.

Took the demo for a spin just before going to sleep.

The atmosphere is very cool - the art and music work very well.

Puzzles are intuitive and work well.

The main hero looses a lot of his toughness after the intro. I'd prefer he kept it.

The sprites for the man living in the apartment seem very much WIP. Probably they are, but it took me out of the game a bit so I wanted to mention it.

Storywise - I hope it's not just another mob story and there's some twist to it.

J. Man and Ascovel thanks for giving it a spin I glad ya'll seemed to enjoy it.  When doing a game sometimes I guess you get kinda lost as to wether it is "fun" or not.  I hope it was fun and trust me if I had the ability I think this game would turn out very different, but with solely me on the project with limited skill I can only do some much.

Just tried the demo...I'm not sure if I finished it though. Seems interesting and cool and pretty original.

And now for the crits:
Though, you set up the story, why am I breaking into that apartment? If I need the money, why did I choose this apartment now? (yes, I'm pretty sure I got what you're trying to do with the plot, it's not why I'm asking)  ;)

When I got to the subway the door opened when the sprite was already in the train and then the game just stopped responding while the music played. That was probably the end of the demo. While on the music - there's a part where there's a drum solo, but it's so loud and abtrusive, I just couldn't think, maybe tone that down a bit, or remove it from the track so it sounds like a smoother jazz.

The street and the subway have coloured details but the hotel and the apartment don't (apart the inv items). Plus in the apartment...

...should I've tryed to grease the floor boards, or was it just to stop me from going into the bedroom?

Plus, although everything is logical,
Spoiler
the text could say something like "and what am I supposed to do with this" and not that the crate is too fragile, because why would I try to use it later on the trash can if it's too fragile?

Also, I'm with J, the control system is a bit too annyoing, there's a reason they switched from that GUI. I know it's fun to have options like push and pull, but I'd rather if I didn't have to try both of them before I guess the right one, instead of pressing "use" or something. But the GUI is just your descision.

p.s. the hotel lobby exit seems to be a very small area, I barely found it, could you make it just a tad bigger?
I don't want the world, I just want your half

Sephiroth

I've played throught the demo and I liked the atmosphere a lot, the puzzles made sense. Aside from the small hotel bug I told you about (pm) there's no major one. Plus I love stories with nicknames like these and first person view when a conversation starts, this is a really nice touch!

Spoiler
The first scene with the bum, the appartment and the girl was cool but when I talked to the big boss he just said good job thats it

I hope you can develop more of the story soon, keep it up.

Again thanks to everyone for playing the Demo.
I encourage anyone to play and if you hate it let me know.  or if you like it let me know.  Anain thanks for the very insightful comments.  The game is some what meant to an open world where you can still however little or much you want and then the big boss would kinda grade you on how you did... the original story was much longer and gott more involved but I found my expertise to be lacking and after awhile I forgot what was meant to be fun.  I agree with you some what about the Lucasarts style GUI I originally wanted it that way becuase with a theif game I wanted a bunch of different verb actions, and using that gui is an as lot harder to program for.  I guess I just like torture...

Sephiroth gotten your PMs I am glad you have been so active about this keep it up you might get a line in the credits :)

I apprieciate everyone's support and heck even if it is a one line comment like "THIS GAME SUCKS EGGS" at least I can use that as a quote for publicity :)

Here are my two cents:

What I liked:
Graphics (as most people did) Especially the light effect in the apartment has been neat

Atmosphere
Music is awesome!

What needs improvement:
For my taste the introduction scene is a tad too long (but very beautiful), the monologue is not too exciting.

The GUI - why not making use of the default actions. Most of the time I want to use or pickup things, not just look at them. So more intelligent right-clicking would be nice

Puzzles
Maybe it because of the demo, but why do I have to ask someone at the door, what I've to do? Wouldn't be a film noir narrator the better choice? Something like "My first day in the city... the mission was easy - maybe a little too easy. blabla"

Puzzles again:
The crates are all named crates, so why should the one on the top be different?

Overall I'm looking forward to this title. Must have been a real time killer to come this far ;)
Btw. why are you still using AGS 2.72?

thanks for the insights.  I wish I could take credit for the music and leave it in there but I stole and have given no credit to the artist (probably should the Musicains name is Rob Price from his Album At Sunset for anyone interested.)  I totally agree with you about what needs improvement.  Originally there was no intro and the player just kinda began in this alley so as just a helpful hint I figured I would have someone tell you what you needed to do might take it out might not.

I am loving all the great feedback I am getting and it is good to hear all complaints and the encouragement keep it up guys.
