This is my second go at making a character. I am going for the steriotypical 'Captain America Macho Man look' but with some realism
Any sugestions on how to make him look cooler.
I want him to look like a casual type soldier. I hope you know what i mean.

Thanks

Is he 404: The almighty muscle man of not-foundness?
You. Me. Denny's.

Not working for me either.

Raider

Oh sorry about that...
How do I make it come up on the screen as part of the post? (kind of a beginner's question)

Well, first of all, make sure it's actually uploaded somewhere that allows for images to be shown off-site (as in, not tripod or geocities or angelfire), then put the url betwenn tags like these

only make sure the SPACES are gone inside the tags.

If nothing else, upload it here: http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/upload/upload.html

If your going for a cartoony stile it's ok, but his torso looks a bit smal and his legs to long. Just make the torso biger and the legs wont look so long...

That would mean you should remove his hands from his pockets and make his face serious

hi,

I'm going for the indiana jones type 'graphics' not like day of the tenticle cartoon style.

I got a little carried away.  Its not the same style or character anymore.  It doesnt matter anyways...I rushed it.  You may be able to pull a few ideas from this, however.

I may post a paintover closer to the style you want later.

Raider

Yes I like that, but it is a bit 'cartoony' because the chin is exagerated and can you please post the pic as just the new one by its self so i can see what you have done up close?
Thanks

Raider

Thanks,
I changed his left shoulder (our left) so it didnt stick up so much.
Any sugestions on how to make him look less cartoon like?

mornin

Hi,

couldn't help it and did a quick paint-over of your character just to give you some ideas.
This is what I changed:

-made his torso longer and the legs smaller
-made him thinner (he looked a little chubby to me  ;))
-tried to exaggerate his muscles
-tired to make him look a little more disciplined
-changed his pose a little (the position of his feet was a little weird)

Well, it's definitely not finished and he's probably a little too thin (looks a bit like a member of a boygroup), but I'm too lazy to work on it any longer  ;D

Good luck!

Tiki

He has little girly-man muscles, mornin.   He looks more like a boyscout than a soldier.  He needs muscles!

Yeah, you're right. He looks quite boyish. Now ambition took control of me. I made a paintover of my paintover and tried to make him look a little more manlike with some more muscles.

The changes I made:

- different hair style
- a bit more muscles
- changed his shirt a little (I don't think there are uniforms with crew necks)

Hope this is a better help  ::)

Actually, I prefer the original to any of the paintovers so far.

The original conveys a better sense of strength. He has a more dynamic pose, with his confident smile and his hand on his belt.

However, you should make sure that the pixel size remains constant. It seems that the entire image was scaled up to 200%, then you drew in details.

loominous

Some modifications:

Things to consider when you want to create a strong/superhero looking figure:

(i) Make the head small
(ii) Make the shoulders broad
(iii) Make the waist thin
(iv) For a superhero look he must be tall (easily done by reducing the headsize; also don t forget long legs (legs should take up half of the bodylength))

In your version he looks bulky but you must contrast this with thinner sections to accentuate the muscles, otherwise he ll look overweight rather than muscular.

But as commented he does look strong and confident in the initial version.

I think he was going for a look similar to:

Rather than what you did, loominous.  It looks good, though.
