I have started making my first game in AGS and I have the first background although it isn't finished, I don't know what to put at the bottom of the room to stop the character from going down (you know, the room seems to go on forever, but I dont want it to seem like that) any other advice/critism is welcome

I dont think the shading is very good either, so i'll probably redo that

Dan2552

nice scructure. looks good so far

is there a name for the game?

LordHart

You could put a table and/or a bed at the bottom of the room... that is if it is a bedroom.

I like your style, but your colors... :-X  :P  :'(

Maybe change the colors...wait yes, please change the colors...

HingedShinobi

ok I'll change the colours, I've just found out how to set up the pallet properly in Graphics Gale

Arboris

Maybe you could change the door to be wider at the top then at the bottom instead. I think that would look better then your current version. Also I think the wall and floor colors need a change. These just dont look right. And if you are going to redo your shading, try to use the roof window for the light source since there is no other sign of a possible light source (yet anyway).

I really like the off-kilter look you've given the room, but that said, it doesn't look like the bookshelf and painting are warped enough to fit in properly. It's not anything drastic, and it didn't jump out as totally obvious to me, but it's something to consider.

Also, I'd try raising the height of the door. I've never seen a door that only goes halfway up the wall, and - unless your character is 3 feet tall - you're going to have to work on some major shrinking animations to make him/her fit. If, of course, your character IS three feet tall, then I'd leave it exactly how it appears.

Good luck, and I really like your style

I've updated it slightly, and fiddled around with the colour, the red dots on the night sky painting are meant to be pins, and I think there are to many stars, I've also redone the bookshelf slightly, although I think it now looks worse

Arboris

I like the door alot better the way it is now. The cabin is still a bit rifid and straight looking compared to the rest tho.
The colors look alot better now too, compared to your old ones.
What i did notice is the wrong perspective on the window in the roof. you might want it to change to look a bit more like this:

btw: the night sky picture almost looks like a window.

I always love your edits, Opo.

DragonRose

Maybe make the back wall bigger.  That would cut down on the empty space at the front of the room.  There's so much floor you'd almost definetly need to use scaling.

Nacho

I do love your edits too, Opo... But they're very very personal, no matter who does the outlines or the composition, if you color it, its Opoish...

So... to keep graphic coherence in games, don't make edits of any work here in Critics Lounge...

Colour my grqphics...  ;D
Are you guys ready? Let' s roll!

HingedShinobi

WHOA!!! That edit rules, but its not the kinda style I'm going for, but its helped me do some of the shading better, thanks

Dan2552

if hobmoblin went with the edit he'd have to work extremly hard to get other rooms like that

Peter Thomas

I like your colour scheme more now. It looks a little more like a room I'd be willing to live in, though I still don't know how many people really have pea-green carpets (unless the room belongs to either a freak or a hero, in which case it's exactly right). On that note, though, it looks strange to have the floor and the grass in the painting the exact same colour (or else really really similar).

Whilst I absolutely love Opo's edit, I agree with Dan. If it goes against someone's natural style, it'll take an eternity to make everything else match, so I'd say: admire opo's work, and take suggestions from it (he's improved the perspective of the skylight), but stick with your own gut style. It's what makes this community so.... different. (Thanks, captain obvious!)

I love your work, if you don't already know.

This is the latest version, but I think the light on the floor makes the room look darker, and yes Peter the room does belong to the hero, although its not his bedroom

Peter Thomas

It does make the sky look a little darker, yes, but I don't think that's a bad thing. I really like the green carpet now (maybe I'm just used to it), but I think my eyes would hurt if the whole floor was that bright.

What else can I say? Hmm... nothing really. The room sort of looks bare, but then again, it doesn't. The fact that painting is on the ground leaning against the wall suggests to me that the room is meant to be a little disorganised (alright, a LOT disorganised).

All in all, I'd be happy to walk into a room like this in a game, and I'd be quite satisfied. In fact, I think it looks pretty groovy, and I haven't said that word FOR EVER! (that was a compliment, in some roundabout sort of way)

Thanks! I'm not to sure what to add, maybe if I give you some more info about the game, well, the game is set in a computer, you play as Jimlin, who was recently drawn in a drawing app by the user of the computer, the computer gets struck down by a virus that brings the sprites to life and captures some of them, you as Jimlin and his friends must then try and find a way to destroy the new virus that plagues the internet. I didn't know what the inside of a computer would look like to a sprite so I designed it like this world, each computer is like a house, and the Internet is like the big outside world. This room is meant to be like the 'My Pictures" folder which explains the pictures on the wall and floor, but I don't know what else to add

UPDATE: I have added some stuff, not sure about the colour of the sofa though, and the angles on the air vent
