Raider

I posted a game idea in the other forum earlier but I have changed my mind on the story so can you please tell me what you think of this one?

Cut scene: You and your partner are flying in your helicopter out at see (returning to th aircraft carrior when you fly through the beumuda triangle and all of your engines fail. Your partner 'bails' out and parachutes down to a nearby island and you 'bail' out later and land on an island 200 meters away.

Your 'mission/objective' is to get to the other island some how and find your partner. when this is accomplished you find an ancient tablet with the plans to build a plane (it is true that they have found a model from ancient aztec times. www.world-mysteries.com) and you need to build this plane from wood and other resources around the islands and from there you fly it to another island. That is all I have thought of so far, please tell me if you are interested and would enjoy the game and any improvements I need.

Thanks all

Sounds interesting concept for a game. I never thought that there was aztec way to build a plane but I know that Leonardo Da Venci made "blueprints" of first helicopter and other things that coulnd't be done at the time.

Daz

im just thinking about the distance between the two islands could be longer because it would be quite easy to swim 200 meters, sounds like an intreging plot

Raider

Thanks Daz I will note that down. What distace do you rekon? 1k?

- Raider

Daz

yeh 1k is good, or you could say he a some kind of injury preventing from being able to swim because the landing was rough or somthing.

Alynn

Or the dude just cant swim

Kinoko

I'd make it even longer than that because 3 young children off the coast of Australia recently swam 3kms twice within a few days in order to save their lives after a boat sinking.  Mind you, that wasn't the Bermuda Triangle... but still, food for thought. I guiess it depends on exactly how he ends up crossing the distance between the islands in the end.

Sutebi

Why not just chuck some dangerous fish in the water between the islands so that he can't enter them. Adds more to the puzzle solving, and maybe a fish could be part of a puzzle somewhere in the game.

Edit: Or, you know, it's the Bermuda Triangle, maybe the water could be boiling for some unexplained reason.
BLOORUGAHS!

Daz

hehe, this is becoming quite a debate

imo , something that's wrong with this plot is that you know what's gonna happen in the game right from the beginning (you're gonna build a plane and fly it to another island).. you gotta come up with a twist in the story, or else, if the puzzles are hard, the player will be easily distracted

Raider

Hey

I like the idea of the fish! But what sort of twist are you talking about? Like while he was stranded 100 years pass or something?
Thanks

prowler

that's interesting, but you've got to integrate it into the story and keep it belieavable

Raider

Hi all

Any sugestions on a 'juicie' twist in the story?
And also, what would you like to be involved on a stranded island in the present time? e.g what type of puzzles?
Thanks

As far as I can see, a major thing to consider is the plausibility of building a plane. Although I couldn't find the article in your link (admittedly I wasn't trying to look terribly hard...) I don't doubt they made PLANS for a plane, but the fact that they never amounted to anyone actually CREATING one has to count for something. Would this plan really work?

As far as twists go, maybe you could somehow work the plane into it. For example, for the majority of the game your goal is to find a way of building a plane - but suddenly something happens and now you HAVE to stay on the island. Why? Maybe to uncover a hidden murder. Maybe all of a sudden you have a motive to KILL your partner. Who knows - it's your game, and I'll let you figure it out ;)

A plane is impossible to build from wood. You need thrust to keep it moving, or else its a glider...
I recomend having the main character crash land on the other side of the island so you have helicopter parts.
Hows this for a plot twist:
The plane is finished...Then the navy finds you as your about to fly

BerserkerTails

Sounds like an interesting idea so far. But for the twist... How I would do it, is that once the plane is finished, and you try to use it, you find that it'snot actually a plane, but a weapon or something. Then you have to stop it before it finds a way off the island and attacks civilization...
I make music.

If there is material (wood) to build a plane, wouldn't it be logical to decide to build some sort of raft or boat to SAIL away from the island...? It would be logical and proven working thousands of times. Provided there isn't realy HUGE fish or whatever swimming in the sea of course ;)

Raider

Hi
Thank you I like the ideas you have all posted...
What I had in idea is have a mountain/volcano on the island and build the plane but you need to roll it off the mountain/volcano to get 'thrust'. I also thought maybe it is cold or something up the mountain and you need to kill some animals to make a coat to keep warm so you can get up there. I didn't really want to go for the sail boat because that is the boring old way of getting of an island.
Thanks again.

jaz

Of course it's boring and unoriginal way to get off an island but do you think that a man trapped there would say "Nah, I'm not going to build a raft to get outta this hellhole, it's been done to death, let's think about some more fancy way" ? You'd better give a good explanation why NOT use raft, that was the point.

Raider

Hi

I was thinking maybe having a huge creture living in the waters preventing any floating device from leaving the island, but its only a rough idea.
But I definatly see what you mean.
Thanks
