This is the main character of the game Ravensmere. I thought that I needed to update his character graphics a bit, so I redid him.

NOTE: The shirt is supposed to be torn.

And also a better view of him:

Ooops! Yeah, thanks for pointing that out. It could cause quite a problem if the light source is somewhere else.

Ok, an update on the walk graphics, now without the self-shading.

as opposed to the old poser walk graphics:

Theres some clipping on the shoulder, other than that technically fine.

The tear in the T-shirt doesn't look too great because its so small, would just make critical people think that its clipping on first glance (and maybe on second or third) so im not so fond of it, maybe make it more obviouse its a tear?

Juse behind his right ear there is something, but i dunno what that is, but the way its flashing it could be clipping.

Also think the T-shirt looks like it's tucked into his trousers or pockets at the side.

And maybe try and make the hair more natural looking (right now it reminds me of Brie from desperate housewives... its so plastic like and unmoving)

But im being over critical, fix the clipping and it will look great.

Lovely model by the way (Im a keen 3d modeler, cant animate for peanuts though)

Hope that helps - Rich
Seeing as I really shouldn't have to get up at such an ungodly hour as 7am, ill put my watch forward by 5 hours to make me feel better...

Mr_Frisby

I like the first one with the self shading best. Looks really good. What program did you use may I ask?

Just as his right arm gets furthest forward it jumps a bit. It loses it's fluid movement for split second.

Clipping is the technical term used for when a part of the mesh (model for those of you who dont understand that) sticks through another part of the mesh.

You notice that as his right arm swings back a bit of pink starts poking through the mesh. This is where the arm mesh "clips" the T-shirt mesh.

And if you didn't understand that im sorry, its technical modeling talk.

Now to revel in the fact that i know something someone else doesn't... this hardly ever happens.

Thanks for the critisism, I really appreciate it.

As to the shoulder "clipping", it's actually a tear in the mesh. If you take a closer look you'll see that the shoulder mesh is still beneath the shirt, and doesn't actually poke through the top. But I can see how it could look like clipping.

To answer Mr_Frisby, I use poser in conjunction with 3D studio Max. I agree that the self-shaded one looks better, but as I said previously, it could cause problems if you have light sources somewhere els in the room. It would look real strange in-game.

Once again, thanks for the critisism. I'll try to work out the snags.
