i hope Chrille doesn't mind i did this.. anywayz, i was playing Pleurghburg and because i was enjoying it so much, i decided to have a go at making somes new Jake McUrk sprites...

i made and animated him all in 3dsm5, with minor touch ups in PS. i've been trying out this method of making animations, and i just thought i'd try it on a known character..

any comments and such? thanks

hey sorry for posting from my other account name, i couldn't access my normal one from where I was...

or maybe we are different people...who just both happen to have the same name, and both use max with AGS using the ink n' paint effect...

yeah anyways on the animation, i don't know the character you're talking about but a few technical comments...his motion seems a bit jerky and unnatural.  might be due to the animation method you are using.  but more importantly, i think you need to move the knee joint further down on the leg.  but other than that looks good :)

yeh, i noticed that about the knee.. the more i look at it, the more it looks like he's walking with a limp..
erm.. he got shot in the leg on duty, maybe.. yeh

thanks stu

Synthetique

It looks like he is skating. Make his feet go flat down on the ground.

Chicky

Layabout

THats pretty damn good mate. Nice work!

But yeah, bit of a glider.
I am Jean-Pierre.

Hollister Man

Personally, I don't think I could look at it for a whole game.  No disrespect intended, but he looks like he's drunk, or headbanging, or something.

First of all, most people don't lean backwards at any time when they're walking, unless you're looking at a real layed back person (pun) and McUrk is NOT layed back.

Second, his arms are too short, and they need to bend more.  I have heard its extremely hard to animate people in Max, you might try DL'ing the demo of Poser and building your McUrk there.

Again, its good for a first try, but he does need some work.
That's like looking through a microscope at a bacterial culture and seeing a THOUSAND DANCING HAMSTERS!

Your whole planet is gonna blow up!  Your whole DAMN planet...

Meowster

He walks like LeChuck from MI2!!!

Make a 3D LeChuck from MI2!!!!!!!

Also, if you have nothing to do, I have something for you to do....

Eggie

It's really nice.
Try studying Jakes original 2D walk and imitating it and hopefully you'll get him to move as well as he looks

Stu, after you render the frames....are you having to crop each frame in photoshop individually?  I'm running into this really innefficient problem and am wondering if other people have found a way around it...

yes, i do the same.. but i make it into a photoshop action, and apply it to every single frame.
lifes a lot more easier that way
