The (supposed) Legend of  Barry Coldpepper

Once upon, during the epic century of the wild west…
A young man escaped from the old sleepy Europe, where he left his creepy doomed mansion, his ruinous law studies, his tyrannical parents that imposed him an unwanted girlfriend , and joined a lousy circus on the other side of the ocean, far away from every known civilization….
His name was Barry Coldpepper, and he became (almost) a legend…

This would be a nonsense humorous comedy,  a spaghetti-western parody, enriched by the mysteries and magic of native Americans and, of course, lots of tricky puzzles…
Just another effort to revitalize the great Lucas-Art tradition…

-------------------------------

Actually I've wrote about 90% of the plot.. But suggest are always welcomed..

As you  can see, with my poor graphics skills, I've also done the main char animation,
This should be Barry:

And here is a gif with his walkcycle

Here I have 3 drafts of backgroud graphics...

1)
2)
3)....

(click on the images to see larger version!)

I did those stuff with terragen and touching real photos with photoshop…
-------------------------

Anyway, I would like to make this as a “collective” project…
Because I like collective creativity, and also I think I'd need a lot of help to make something good out of this idea…

However I'm just a coder, so I REALLY need help especially for graphics, character drawing and animation, GUIs and backgrounds.

Any kind of help/critics also for music, or if you have a suggestion for the plot, and so on,  will be appreciated and gratefully welcomed…

If you are interested in this project just PM me, and  I could even rise up a web site and a community forum dedicated to this game…
-----------------------

Thank you for your patience reading this post.

Looks great so far.  Those backgounds are outstanding.  There are a few things you could do with Barry to make him a little more cowboy-ish, like give him boots and a bigger beltbuckle, stuff like that, but otherwise he looks good too.
I'm a little busy with my own projects, but I'm a bit of an artist myself, so if you need any help with animations or backgrounds feel free to send me a pm or an e-mail. Good luck, and keep us informed about your progress!

Xenos

thank you friend...
I was thinking about the boots, well he comes frome europe after all, and I want to give him the look and the feel of a wannabe cowboy not a real one...

Anyway I will sure ask you for help 'couse i need lotsa of help with graphics... ;D

Corey

looks very realistic but i cant really judge about it since the pictures arent big enough to see all details

So click on the links to the bigger versions ... (Although it would be easier if the thumbnails linked directly.)

I think the Barry sprite looks really good, but could be a bit too 'cartoon-y' for the backgrounds (by which I mean, he's clearly drawn, while the BGs look like photos with a few filters applied). Although, if they're just draft BGs it probably doesn't matter  - maybe you could draw over those BGs to make them fit Barry's style better?
I know what you're thinking ... Don't think that.

Barry's legs seem to be a little bit "jerky" (don't know how else to describe it) while he's walking, you might want to add in a few more frames of animation.  And his hair looks a little bit wierd for a cowboy.  Otherwise it's good.

Edit: The only anim. that is like that seems to be the walking to the right, the other two are good.

Xenos

Hmm... I'll try to add some more frame or to make the side walking animation a bit smoother.... He doesn't have to look like a cowboy, but like someone who would try to look like a cowboy.....

Anyway I have another question for you....

Here are 2 version of barry:

1)
2)

There is only a little difference between the 2 sprites..
The #1 is full outlined and use few colours...
The #2 uses more colours but is not outlined....

According to you, which is better?

However, thank you all very much, for your suggest...

yourhumblecartoonist

I like number 2, the shading on his pants is better.  The non-outlined character might look better against your backgrounds, although I'm not sure.  It's a tough call, I think black outlines are really a matter of personal preference.

Bradless01

??? ??? ??? ???id go with the first one, ok?
??? ??? ??? ???

IM NOT TEH SPAM

Er...
I don't think you should fill your posts with ???'s...
And I like the shading on No. 2, but the outline makes no difference.

Tuomas

Here, I took a little liberty to do some paint over on him. Nothing bad with the actual one, I like it really, the 2nd is better... But the way I see a wannabe-cowboy, you need sone exaggeration... so I tried to do some. It's a bit messy, but you get my point :D

He has some of a beard like, white glistening outfit, and the ehm, rope, pistol, ammobelt and such. Hastily drawn ok

Kweepa

Heh, reminds me of Back to the Future 3.
That guy's trying just a little too hard to blend in.
Still waiting for Purity of the Surf II

Xenos

Well thanks people...
I think I will still use the #1 just becouse my backgrounds are a bit messy, so the outlines help focusing the character....

Hey Tuomas your drawing is a great caricature... If you allow me I will use it in some part of my game....

Thank you anyway....

*still working on a playable demo..*

Tuomas

Xenos, please don't use it! You might want to do something to it because as I said, it's a bit messy :D But then, be my guest...
