Quick Pixel ART-backgrounds and sprites

I've found an interesting page online:

You can easily use real pictures or hand-made backgrounds. Better render option to me is 3, to get a nice retro pixel effect.
It's quick and simple to use.

Not to sound rude, but you get the same effect by just resizing a photo to somewhat of 320x240. Pixel art is usuall much more about each pixel being relevant to the picture. That's why you put up with putting down pixels by hand, that you have control over the image on a pixel level. So, yes, sure nice to get a quick mockup, but I don't quite see it as a replacement for a nice x1600 zoom and a 1px pencil tool... :-X

Judging from the site itself, you might get better results by putting in a custom palette with some carefully chosen colours- two or three shades each for the sand, flora, wood, water and sky.
