Ikari: I like the yellow-toned edit, it looks like one of those old photographs... and the mirror comment isn't stupid at all--the mirror is indeed unfinished and looks pretty lame so far ^_^

Elric and Walrus: Thanks ^_^

Da_Elf: neat tutorial, thanks for sharing ^_^

Da_Elf

when i saw your grey scale shading of the characteri thought of this tut. with this you could probably get things like lace or other fabric designs to rise and fall with the folds without having to manually draw it that way.

MashPotato

After taking a break, I started on this again.  I must admit I'm getting tired of looking at this, so help me finish it quickly! ;D

The Ivy

I think the picture would look more unified if she were looking to the left, i.e. at her reflection. Those poor fairies with the mirror are wasting a lot of energy for her to be looking the other way! :)

Alternatively you could flip the mirror fairies horizontally and move them to the right of the image, although I'm not sure what that would do to your composition.

Otherwise, the colours and shading look spot-on, I especially like the subtle texture you've added to the wallpaper. Good luck getting this finished. :)

Pesty

I agree about moving the mirror or her eyes so that she is looking into it, it just looks out of place otherwise. I don't think it'll mess up your composition, in fact, I think it will give it a more even flow.
ACHTUNG FRANZ: Enjoy it with copper wine!

Nikolas

The Ivy: I think that that's the idea! That artistocrat is sooo spoiled that won't even bother to look at the mirror. I find the fact of not looking to the mirror to give exta personality to the artistocrat.

Nothing from me Mash... It's quite lovely...

MashPotato

Heheh, thanks Nikolas, but the effects of her looking away from the mirror were purely unintentional ^_^.
Thanks Ivy and Pesty, I agree the eyes should be looking more at the mirror; I originally changed the eye direction so she would be looking more at the fairy on her arm, but when I changed the angle of the mirror it became more sensible for her to be looking at that instead.  The eyes are looking more to her right now--perhaps not exactly at the mirror, but I am wary of moving the mirror more to her left because it's pretty clumped in that area as it is.  At least this way, whether she's looking at the viewer or at the mirror, there is more connection.

I also made some smaller changes (that probably aren't noticeable unless you look at the pictures side by side)

I appreciate all they help/encouragement everyone has given me, and unless any more suggestions are forthcoming, after I clean up the curtains a little more I will finally declare this picture finished ^_^

Drawing is very nice, how is made, handmade and then photoshop with graphic pen (if yes, wich pen, I need that sensibility) or else?

It's a scanned sketch, coloured in Photoshop.  If it helps, I made a pseudo-tutorial a while back.  I use a Wacom tablet that's so old that I don't think it's a Graphire or an Intuos... it has the model number ET-0405-U

EDIT: the latest version... I ended up moving the mirror:
EDIT #2: I made a few more changes not shown here, and I'm declaring this picture finished, so I won't be making any more edits...

Eggie

I have only one question!

Do you have a Deviantart account?

MashPotato

No, I never really liked the navigation at DA so I never got an account... when it comes to public art sites, my main ones are my LiveJournal artblog and my Elfwood gallery.  I have an Epilogue one too, but I haven't updated that in ages (partly because my stuff gets rejected ;))

Hey Mash,

I have not logged in to post in a few months, but I had to tell you the work you have here and on your L J account is amazing. Great work!

loominous

Finally some time to do some edits, though it feels like there's not much to do on this one - another great pic there mash!

Here's some rather picky things:

I) Her left eye was pointing a bit to far right, as far as I could see.

II) Her left eyebrow didn't really wrap around the head, and was mirrored instead. Also altered the eye a bit in a similar fashion.

III) Her ear was still very close to the eye, which I suppose could work, but only really if her head was really flat, which it doesn't look like it is.

IV) Her back was curved in a peculiar fashion, though I dunno whether this might be due to the clothing of the time.

V) Altered the nose, which was pretty weird in the original.

As always, looking forward to your next piece.

Btw, the background, which I know you're usually a bit uncomfortable with, works really well imo.

CURSE YOU, LOOMINOUS!!!  I WAS DONE!!!

I am of course kidding ^_^.  Thanks, as always, for the feedback and paintover.
I am reading the Loomis books and trying to work on my faces a bit, so hopefully noses (which I have always had trouble with) will be better in the future.
The back curve was supposed to be a very exaggerated arch with the chest thrusting forward, so it's indeed not a very natural position, which hopefully accounts somewhat for the peculiarity.
Thanks again Loominous ^_^
