Hi all,

since I'm making RPG's with AGS, I wanted to ask some questions about this enemy I designed.

It represents a water elemental (elementals are creatures based on and build up from one element if I'm right):

And yes, I know the lines are a bit... thick... but if I didn't make them a bit thicker, the picture would have been destroyed when I resized it.

My biggest problem: I don't have a single idea on what colours to use for her... >.<

Anyways, I'd love to hear what I can improve.

Blue would be the obvious choice, but I think a blend of green and white could look really interesting.

Hm... I was thinking of that too.

But maybe some pastel to make it look a bit like a pearl? Nice idea?

I don't know, maybe I'll expiriment with it.

By the way, paintovers are really appreciated.

That's a very nice drawing.
You should attempt to turn it into a sprite before asking for C&C, otherwise
- you're just asking someone to paint it for you
- anyone attempting a "paintover" has no idea of your sprite style

You might surprise yourself and make something that you're happy with!

Well, I only need ideas...

these are the outlines I constucted so far (I'm working on colours, light and shades right now):

I'll post the more finaished version soon!

How about something like a this?
Rough and simple.
It's standard, but klichées are useful in the way that they efficiently tell the player what exactly they're up against. I tried to work in as much "life" as possible, since water to me seems rather lively and untameable.

Good linework by the way.
I hate signatures. Signatures are stupid.

Maltjik: Thanks, nice colours! I like them more as mine...

I've FINALLY finished my own colours. I did it rather different, but hey...

I also thought of dithering, but I don't know or it'll do the picture any good.

Quite lovely I should say.

The coloring you did looks great I think, very flowing and smooth.  The 'water' look was definately acheived.

Only one thing really catches my eye that I dislike.  Up near the top of her head, where the water comes out from behind her, it appears to be very very thin.  I mean, when it goes behind her at the waist, it is a little wide, but as it comes out from behind her head, it is very skinny.  It widens out quickly, but I think if you made it a little wider, it would look more flowing.  (I realize how hard it must be to understand what I just said  :P.  Oh well, I tried.)

Once again, a lovely work.

Akumayo: I tried to get a perspectively correct look, but again I failed a bit... But that doesn't make ik look boring and like a watery ribbon too... ^.^'

I dropped the idea of  dithering, by the way, it' s a lot of work and not nearly as good as I thought...

A good choice. I don't think dithering would work well when trying to convey the smoothness of water.

Will you be animating it? Because that will be the real challenge.

Well, I think I'll try to, but I'm sure the animations will only be attacks, defending, etc. and not just standing, since that'll take a lot more pictures. Besides, I'm trying to make new enemies too...

Okay, I have a new enemy ready.

This time (s)he's already colourized, but I don't know or it looks good enough.

Here it is:

It's called a unistorm and it's a horse with thunder powers. I'm thinking of adding some thunder to the horn to make it look like he uses a thunderbolt-spell, but will that ruin the image?

Thanks in advance,

No that won't ruin it...In fact I think that it will add some life to It cuz now it seems a little lifeless ^^"
With my luck it's a hand granade...

Arendyll (formerly Yurina)

I think I'll add some thunder, then. Maybe I'll animate it too... I don't know yet.

I think to make him more representative of the element, you may also make his tail in a thunder shape, maybe you can try to make the hairs on his head like that also. That way if you have other creatures like unifire, uniice, etc. ;D you can make them more distinguishable.

Ah well, I wasn't talking about Pocket Monsters...

Maybe I'll do that. I'm currently trying to get some more enemy ideas, but I'm a bit stuck since I already have 8 which I quite like. (I thought of the "elements": water, ice, fire, thunder, air, earth and undead) I have a long way to go, but I guess you're right. The more the mare-rier (I couldn't help myself! ;D)!

Thanks,

Thanks! But to be honest, I worried mostly about it being a naturally-shaped horse. This is the very first time I like the horse I've drawn.
