Hi guys.I'm developing a humorous science fiction adventure called Rob & Zender: Intergalactic detectives. In this game you control 2 characters, detective Robert Miles and the alien Zender.I'm posting these screenshots  for the moment.As soon as I have finished the scenario ,I'll open a new topic in the "AGS games in production" section.

back on topic:
the 3D models are quite nice, but looking at your bgs, if feel that the only purpose of the patterns is to conceal the lack of detail. They are very prominent, too, which isn't quite comfortable to the eye.
There aren't any intercoms, trashcans, light switches, plants, that sort of thing.
The desks are featureless and there aren't any e.g. papers on them.
You should really add some of those.

I know it, but these are just the first stages.
How should I add details(papers,switches,posters,bulletin boards)?Adding them as 3d objects  or by designing them in a 2d paint program (paintshop,photoshop etc.)

I would say that is up to you to decide that one. Which do you feel more comfortable in? If you do it in your 3d program it is more likely to fit into the picture then if you paint it ontop.

I agree that if I do it in my 3d program (specifically I'm using Blender) it will fit better into the bg ,but it is easier to do it in a drawing application.Anyway,thanks for the comments.I'll make some modifications and re-post the modified  backgrounds.

If you add the objects in Blender, they'll surely fit into the bg way better.
But an object that can be moved or picked up isn't as easy to 'seperate' from its bg as it would be in 2D, given the smooth transitions between obj and bg in rendered images.

To get the best result, you'd have to repaint the part of the bg where the obj was.

For an object that can be picked up you just have to render the image with and without the object...

I prefer to render each object seperately and then add it to the background. What do you think about the colors choice.Are they monotonous?

I do all my backgrounds using bryce and if I am going to have an object that can be picked up I render the background with the object then render the background without the object then you just crop the object so you end up with a sprite sized object instead of a whole background then you can just lay the obejct in place in AGS and turn it on and off as you need to.
Wow all that and only one period.
Anyways then you can also render just the object against a blank background to use it as an inventory object. It's not as hard as it sounds and it is basically the same thing you would do for backgrounds made in a 2d program.

I have hust started adding detail in the backgrounds.
Here is the revised version of the second image



I'm open to any suggestions about what more should I add.

I'm finding the most disturbing part to be, the textures. If you CAN, you could try adding variations to the textures.

I didn't really get it. Can you please give me an example? (you mean things like cracks in the wall etc?)

well, as in, the furniture looks just too smooth. you know? I know, you might not be a good artist, and if you aren't then you could try this site: http://www.grsites.com/textures/
