Remaked screenshot from KQ4

As I have had extra time during this Christmas holiday, I decided to remake one screen from King's Quest 4.

Yes, I know, it could have done much better (regarding especially the trees). However, I'm NOT remaking entire game, I did this one picture just because of fun. Actually I have my own, original AGS game project under development.

I tried my best at editing it. but i think i may have ruined it in the process. my main point is that even though it has great depth, it lacks variation. especially in the water. The sky is also quite plain.

It is however, a great background.

There are very few drop shadows. Also, I like where Haddas was going with the water. Makes it more like a babbling brook.

The remade version lacks the depth the original conveys (the values are close, so the trees lack definition from the grass). Also, the distant land near the horizon should be less saturized, not darker. The original picture works because the darker EGA green is a closer to a neutral color.

Remaking this scene is not an easy task, as the original is beautiful, simple yet powerful. Except for maybe the rocks in the lower right corner, those could use some work. The original sprites are solid, too, especially the unicorn. The only way I could like that one more is if I were a gay horse.

I think you did a very good job updating it to a pseudo-QFG 1 remake style. The only thing that catches my eye is the over-aliasing of everything. It just makes the images blend together too much rather than stand out as individual objects. Keep with it, you definitely have something here.

But on the other hand, it now looks like there is sunset or something... Actually, the time in the original screen is mid-day?

I remade the picture quite quickly, so I don't wonder at all if there are things to fix.

Oh and the cloud in the original looks a bit wonky, too. I guess to improve upon the composition in the original you could vary the planes of the trees on the left.

Such a cool style though. Why is it that 16 color EGA games are so rare in the AGS world (only Keptosh comes to mind)?
