Its for my 'in the very early stages' game Toy Quest (which is a working title). In this game the main character is toy sized and goes around interecting with troll dolls and teddy bears and i hope i got the gui looking appropriatly cutsie and toy like.

I feel like theres something dragging it down but i cant put my finger on it, so with out further ado, critique away :)

Its your toy gizmo thingy, only your boss's kid dropped it because as we know, kids can't look after toys properly.

I was originaly designing my logo but gave up on it and did this instead. I like designing guis. Is that weird?

I like the "cut" but I feel the tape is too much. And since we don't see it again, it feels a bit out of place.

I would also add some of those shade lines to the speechbubble box, and to the hand, to match with the other buttons, but I would also suggest a remake of the hand. Make it a child's hand, and more open... Right now, it looks almost like a "STOP" gesture, and not a grab type gesture.

Where you are right now with it is very impressive. I love what you've done so far.
- Oh great, I'm stuck in colonial times, tentacles are taking over the world, and now the toilets backing up.
- No, I mean it's really STUCK. Like adventure-game stuck.

I think the gui fits your plan nicely, but personally I'd put a darker outline around the icons and shade them a bit so they appear as more than decoration.  Nice work!

Definitely love the work on the GUI so far, it suits the theme well. However, I think the "Game Options" bit could be improved upon. I feel it looks a tad bit annoying to look at ... maybe it's just me  ;D

But the rest of the work done on it is great! Keep it up!  :D

I hope you won't be offended that as soon as I saw this image I clicked on your username to see if you were a girl.

The girliness is good though, especially since cutesy is  what you were aiming for. The only thing that strikes me as odd about it is that the icons seem very tall and narrow, while I'm used to seeing square icons. That isn't necessarily a problem though, it's just unusual.

Scummbuddy: Removed the tape, but if it looks too bare i might consider adding more tape. I'll probably do that soon just to see what it looks like anyways ;)

and yeah I guess i better give the speech bubble and hand a bit more depth to them like the others. I'll do them later tonight i think.

ProgZmax: I was thinking about having the icons glow abit when the cursor is moved over them, to get them to stand out abit and look less like decoration. I did the look icon below with how that midh turn out.

.Sklate.: I agree with you actually, i think its those flowers as the "o"s. I did a few in different fonts to see how they looked. They're rough, i havent really done much with positioning...

Although I think that number three looks way too messy.

Ali: I'm not offended. I'd be offended if you opted not to pay my game when its done just because of how girly my gui looks. And I did try it in blue actually, to see what it looked like. Pink just seemed to go better.

Thanks for all the comments so far guys, its really appreciated!

I liked that tape thing, the magnifier icon looks now blurred and differ a little from the rest.

I'd for the font one of five. Although both of them seems to fit the style pretty well, number five looks more interesting.

To leave the girlish look, I'd also stay away from the darker colors, (like blue). The pink layout looks very good.

I think the text is most readable and effective in example 2.

The mouse-over glow is a good idea, but the magnifier does look blurry. Try taking just the blurry icon and blending it with the non-blurry version of the same icon using Additive or Screen blending and maybe some transparency. that should add a brightening glow without the icons losing clarity.

I'd play the game because it's girly! I'm making a game about rescuing fluffy birds. More cute games, says I!
