A walkcycle

Mouth for war

Ok! I had a theory one day about doing walkcycles. I studied people how the legs move when they walk etc.
If you think it's good enough I was thinking about maybe doing a small tutorial about it. It was very easy when i noticed that my idea of doing it worked well. (Yeah I think it's ok but maybe it's not ;) )

I KNOW I'm no expert at all so don't rub it in haha, and there are many many great animators here. But I thought it might be useful for people like me who don't consider themselves as very good and find animating a major pain in the ***

Anyway...I really wanted to try my theory so I began animating. Here's the result. Like I said, I'm far from an expert but i hope it has some worth to you. :D Oh don't mind the feet. I haven't corrected them just yet

mass genocide is the most exhausting activity one can engage in, next to soccer

Good work, that's definitely much improvement since your main characters walkcycle. Looking at how real people walk is indeed the best thing to make a decent walkcycle. I'm generally happy with the cycles I've done so far but they're always unnaturally exaggerated. People just don't move and lift their legs much while walking...

Keep it up.

Your arms are 2 frames late.

@Jim
Yeah, that book is awesome :D

Apart from that I can't add much more to the topic. I could already live with that walkcycle. If you're aiming for perfection, I'd suggest to let his belly bounce too.

Watch your feet. They aren't on a flat plain right now, kinda like a shallow half-pipe.

The arms could be a bit less stiff, but personally I'd avoid the broad monkey-walk posing(specifically the down) in the Richard Williams pic above.

Jim: There really isn't a hard set of rules on walk cycles. If it looks good it's good! The Animator's Survival Guide is a great reference but I feel it shouldn't be followed so strictly that arms reaching the peak of their swing must hit on frame X of a walk cycle.
