My cyberpunk/dystopia adventure (The Prophecy) is coming along pretty well. It features religious elements and is heavy on the existential issue. I've been working quite hard to find a musical style to suit the game's feel. As the gameplay will take place in a disorderly nomad world where arab culture is dominant, I feel the music should reflect this somehow. Listen to this and tell me what you think:

The game will be high/low tech and set in a world where science has failed and people put their trust in religion and faith.

Well, a mixture of high tech/low tech I think. The game's technology will be fairly advanced but after ages of being imprisoned by science and technology, people have started going back to nature, cultivating land, farming, etc. I will post more elaborate game info later. :)

Thanks!
And yes, CP links would be very useful. Any art reference? I guess I'll go pretty much with my own style, but some inspiration would be nice.

Play Beneath a Steel Sky, That's CyberPunk-ish Maybe not, But It's worth playing anyway.

Yeah, I love BASS and my game will be similar in style. There are lots of different varieties of cyberpunk though, and I'm looking to mix them all down. Remains to be seen if it will be a successful approach considering that some of them clash pretty badly. ;)

Oh, now I have to play BASS again! Thanks for triggering me. :)

I would say to try the SNES version of Shadorun, it was very futuristic and tech based.

I like the music, it has a good ambient sound to it for some run down western meets futuristic town.

Fizz

heres my friend music web page: www.rasbolding.com really nice gloomy EBM. very cyber-punkish.  some nice and simple definitions, but i guess you allready know that http://www.wiu.edu/users/emp102/Cyberpunk/

Nice track, I think you've got it. Only thing: the fill-in is a bit too simple. Perhaps you could make it sound less midiish and perhaps also insert a longer break at some point?

You mean the lead melody? Yeah, it sounds a bit tacky. I haven't had time to polish it. :)
Thanks for the crit!

Here are some visuals from the game. I did some touch-ups on the promo screen. The game will be top-down so the perspective will be as shown in the background test image. Character faces will be visible and animate during dialogues. I'm quite happy with the overall style so far. I know the character faces still look very generic, and I'm working on improving that. The last two pics are from cut scenes.

There! I justed wanted to give you an idea of what the visual style will be like. Any crits are welcome as usual! And yes, I'm still a gfx rookie, musician at heart. ;)

Great stuff!!

I was just thinking about this graphics (the title one) the other day wondering if you were still working on it!

The new stuff is fantastic!  I've said it before (now I'll say it again) I can't wait till you 'improve' :)

Do you do all that dithering/patterning by hand?  (IE pixel by pixel)

Al_Ninio

Ooh.
I was just wondering, a few days ago, if you are still working on this.
Glad to see you are.

The graphics remind me of Dreamweb.
I believe that's a good thing!
Keep it up. :)

You are a gfx rookie :o ??
As you say, the faces are pretty generic. You could change the skin tones and the shapes of the faces to differentiate them. Other than that, the only crit I can think of, is that the 2nd pic (I assume it is an ingame BG) is kind of bare.
The ultimate Professional Amateur

Now, with his very own game: Alien Time Zone

Yeah, I dither/pixel everything by hand. Painstaking work, but fun! :D

Thank you for the kind words!

Yes, it's more of a test background, I haven't put much work into it. I'll try working with the skin tones for the faces. Thank you.

Yeah, DW is a bit of a visual role model for this game. I'm glad you notice that. :D

Very similar to many amiga game graphic styles.  Nice work!

Evil

Evverything looks great but the skull. It looks more like a decaying head rather then a freshly severed one. In that case, it probably wouldn't have a nose.
