I've been working on "semi-realistic" B&W character a while now, here's the progress so far. It sure needs tweaking, but I'd liked to know how do you like it in general.

As usual in this forum, I'd liked to get some C+C, but this time there's more! I'd also highly appreciated if you could describe your first feelings about the character with few adjectives. It would help me a lot in future.

Thank you in advance.

i like it, it came out looking really nice.  i especially like the soft, blurriness.  it gives it a more realistic, "old photo" quality.

to me the character looks young, awkward, mischevious, and bold.

evilspacefart

nice. good shading. to me the character, doesn't look bold, but instead a quiet studious type.

Neole

Very cool. Looks like a slinky small time thief in Paris.

Xadhoom

Looks great. And that's a very interesting technique you are using to build up your character. Looks effective. :)

I think he should be a bit fatter
Otherwise, its great

loominous

I think he could use a thorax. Very interesting style though.
Looking for a writer

Should I go on with the blurring style or would there be better ways. The sprite will be 50-70% most of the time in the game, so accurate pixel-work is useless. I hope you understand what I mean.

And thank you everyone who replied. I think I got it pretty good, since it supposed to be skinny, brave, 15/16-year-old boy. It sure looks like he's missing a thorax, but the shirt should be the one they had in 40's and 50's. You know, those sack-kind-of-things.

Good animation, but it needs to flow more. Know what I mean?

n3tgraph

the charactar is very unclear on black backgrounds,

maybe that's a point you could take a look at
* N3TGraph airguitars!

I can´t see it very clear, but I think that arms motion should be strongly recommended. It should be perfect with that, imo.
Are you guys ready? Let' s roll!

Flippy_D @school

It's too fast - you need to slow it down a bit and add a couple of extra frames on animation. Then it'll be perfect.

the character is fantastic!!!!

Mikko

agsking: Yeah, I think I was bit too cheapy with frames. It has only 6 of them. That should be fairly easy to fix.

N3TGraph: I had the black background, because in the game there is night scenes, where the overall light is quite low. The forums are pretty bright and that makes it even more unclear. Anyway, that'll be easy to tinker later.

Farlander: Oh, his arms are in his pockets to save me that trouble. I'll look at it though. :)

Flippy_D: Definately needs slowing. I think my animationshop had some sort of "slow-down" or something, since it was slower there. Good point anyway. Thank you.

danny: Thanks! But to be bit more specific, does that mean I should go with the blurring style for rest of the body? ;)

undergroundling

wow, this character is really shaping up great.  the walk animation definitely needs to be slowed down though.  it also looks as if he is leaning forward a little awkwardly, but maybe thats just my imagination.

great work!
