*Festive* Dependency on AGS Forums Revealed... *Ho Ho Ho*

Ali

In the last few days a fog descended on the UK, seemingly engulfing the AGS forums. It made me realise that I check the boards embarrassingly frequently.

I hope the rest of you used the down-time as an opportunity for reflection and quiet meditation.

Here come the forums.. OF CRACK!

+1

But no, I got very drunk*.

Welcome back  :=

* Edit don't let it fool you I did still do plenty of AGS stuff  8)

Peder 🚀

I've been close to death because of the downtime!
Luckely though I've been pretty busy working on AGS Archives :)

Snarky

I was committed to a padded cell within twelve hours. Couldn't let me out until the forums got back up.

So... kinda?

But yeah, is there no way we can stop this from happening?

Dualnames

I committed suicide. No jk, lololololololo.

I mean, I didn't really care THAT much, but I certainly clicked on the bookmark around 20 times.
Worked on Strangeland, Primordia, Hob's Barrow, The Cat Lady, Mage's Initiation, Until I Have You, Downfall, Hunie Pop, and every game in the Wadjet Eye Games catalogue (porting)

Chicky

It's been a hard weekend without you guys. Group hug!

Has anyone else found production on their AGS project increase? I'm not sure why, but i felt the need to push pixels all weekend.

Oh and AGS, don't mind Dualnames, he's still a bit sore. I care, a lot. Don't break down again x

Second that, it *helps* focussing, but I still missed that soothing blue screen!

Matagot

Hi there!!!  ;D

I'm new to the forums!
I thought I'd make this my first post in this thread since I completely freaked out at the forums 'downtime'.

Here I was, weeks ago, checking out the AGS website, filled with excitement and enthusiasm at the prospect of finally achieving one of my biggest goals in life: To make an adventure game!

So off I went, writing down as many ideas of what kind of game to design, looking at how to use AGS and checking out other peoples excellent games and so on.

Then the downtime came.....

..... UTTER DESPAIR!!!!! My dreams slipping through my fingers!!!!! OH THE PAIN! THE PAIN!!!! :o :o :o

But anyway.
I'm kinda glad other users are experiencing the same thing and that it is not my computer laughing at me.

But I'm more than glad to finally post here  ;D ;D ;D

Hoping to eventually share my ideas with you guys!!!!

Matagot

Dualnames

Matagot, welcome aboard, and yeah forum downtimes are kinda like m0ds. You never know when and where he's gonna pop up from.

Man, has Ad Avis cast a spell to screw with the forum or something?   ;D

Tabata

Nice to see you all again

How to survive hard times without the AGS-family?

When the Forum is down we all have hard times!
It always make me terrible headaches:

What do you do (if you don't wear tight leather pants, being busy with baking sweets ) not to get crazy during those times?

Any good ideas or experiences about substitutes?

Snake

Welcome Metagot!

Yeah, I've been missing the forums pretty badly. I've checked and checked this place about... actually, there is no way I could make any sort of estimate. I checked A LOT. A couldn't stop.

QuoteI committed suicide. No jk, lololololololo.
LOL!

I am also guilty of checking to see if the Forums were back up and running constantly.

Welcome back for now.  :)

Even if I don't post, I checked every hour to see if the forums are back... (Plus they are still my homepage after a good number of years...)... Welcome back forum and people I've known for the past 7 years or so...

Wow an ATOTK avatar ! That was so 2000's.  ;)

*sigh* go ahead and add me to the list of people who clicked the refresh button 20 times per hour for the past few days. I sure hope we get to enjoy the boards a little while before they decide to go down again.

Maybe we should have a backup forum we can all temporarily retreat to if such an unfortunate event should occur?

How about simply hijacking meeting in an other forum during such a period

(and start a thread for lonesome AGS-ers over there)

Grim

Oh, thank God, the forums are back!

It felt like there was a hole inside of me I couldn't fill...

Strange, considering I don't post often... But I read others posts all the time.

During this downtime I found myself reading Skyrim Wiki. At least now I know how to join the Dark Brotherhood! ;) ---> Unsuspecting folks of Skyrim- beware! ;)

Stupot

Missed you guys, but I did seem to get a fair bit more uni work done this week than usual.
Maybe just a coincidence.

Also, I finally got around to starting Telltale's Sam and Max Season 1 which I bought yonks ago on steam.

Dear AGS Forums,
Plz stay online forever.

Domino

We could also create a Facebook AGS Forums page and all meet in there..if the forums go down again.

Just an Idea...

mkennedy

Hopefully whatever caused the forums to go down has been fixed. It would be sad if they were to go down again. So does anybody know what happened and why they were down?  ???

I say we form a secret society of AGSers to raise funds for a new AGS server.  Here me out, friends: reliable up-time, the fuzzy feeling of helping your community, and I'm sure we could throw game-making in there somewhere.  Who's with me?

Here are some candidate sites:

The Any Given Saturday (AGS) Forum

The Association of Georgia Surveyors (AGS) Forum (actually, through some sort of parallel irony, this forum is also down at the moment)

The Alagille Syndrome (AGS) Alliance Forum

The Association of Geotechnical & Geoenvironmental Specialists (AGS) Forum

And my personal favourite......

The American Gerbil Association (AGS) Forum

See you there next time BigBlueCup isn't BigBlueUp!

Tell me about it. I actually had to sit down and figure out how to do something myself over the weekend instead of just looking it up in the technical forums. I had to write actual code... from scratch! It was awful!  :o

I don't ever want to have to do that again!

Just in time for the Christmas season, Limey Lizard pops in with a bunch of random stuff he's found scattered all over his ship.

One mans' trash is another mans' treasure, right?

In these dark and uncertain times, we need a good laugh (and a frustrating maze sequence ;) ). The AGS Community needs a sequel, ProgZ. We NEED one.  :D

Thought this would fit here best:
are the forums slower than usual for anyone else? I'm pretty sure it's not my connection since it says how long it took to create the page at the very bottom and I'm getting times up to 10 seconds or more.

Is something wrong with the server or is it just used to capacity?

Ali

It's slow here as well, sounds like you're right.

Ponch

Running slow for me as well. Someone should ask CJ if he needs a new server and if there's any way we can help.  ::) ;)

Tabata

For me it's not only slow
... it always stucks and gives me „FastCGI Error“ about a server problem every now and then  :'(
and if the site comes up, it needs „hours“.

Yeah, actually I'm getting that too, for quite a long time already.

Heh, right, I completely missed the connection since it only got slow for me a few days ago. I thought the downtime was due to a database crash or something.

Anyway, the Bake Sale is a superb idea and I'll gladly fork out some cash for the site I visit the most :)

Pretty slow to me here as well, it's not something new though,
count me in if there's a way(money) to contribute for a new server.
