Um...me and this other lady ended up winning. And some of the press has been ridiculous.

I've also been getting some weird congratulatory calls from old school friends. As I keep saying, it could be any Erin Robinson they're talking about...

ThreeOhFour

Nice work! Well done for turning something that could be a very awkward game indeed into something pretty funny ;).

SSH

Maybe this new fame and fortune will let you afford to host your avatar properly ;)

To paraphrase Abba: Does your mother know that you won?
12

Andail

And did you, as a winner, take it all?

m0ds

G-D-C you doing well :) Enjoyed reading the CNN article!!

SpacePirateCaine

Congratulations, Ivy,

It's really great to see talented members of the community getting the recognition that they deserve. Your creativity is pretty obvious, and now you have a huge media whirlwind to prove it. I actually heard about this story a little while back, but didn't realize that it was you. Awesome.

So now it's your responsibility to keep the momentum going. Since you have some clout now, people are going to be keeping an eye on what you produce for a while, so let's hope that this newfound fame keeps working out well for you.

Dualnames

Stop winning, I'm out of congratulations already ;) ;) ;) ;) :D :D :D
Worked on Strangeland, Primordia, Hob's Barrow, The Cat Lady, Mage's Initiation, Until I Have You, Downfall, Hunie Pop, and every game in the Wadjet Eye Games catalogue (porting)

GarageGothic

Congrats, Ivy! I actually read about it in a Danish newspaper before you posted here (the article is here if you want to try to spot your name amidst a bunch of Scandinavian gibberish). You're an international celebrity!

Snarky

Yeah, congratulations! I read about it on the AV Club, and was surprised that it wasn't picked up on the AGS blog/forums earlier.

It'd be a shame to waste good hype, so use these ideas and take Puzzlebots in a different direction, why don't you?

You mean something like "The 32-bit Virgin"?

The Ivy

Thanks everyone. :)

My parents found out about this via google...but luckily they're still proud of me. They even sent me a framed copy of the Forbes article. How is that for awkward?  ::)

I'm not sure how much "clout" this will give me, but at the very least it means I'm going to GDC next year too, and I get another chance at the competition. Also, Puzzle Bots will very likely be out by then, and maybe I can do a bit of shameless promotion.

And Andail, touche! :P ;)

Do your parents sit on google googling your name?

Trent R

Yay for Ivy! Although not was you may have expected for GDC exposure*, that is awesome to win for such short prep time.
*pun not intended.

Garage, that Danish article is the first one I've seen with a picture from the comp. Must say that I love the mouse cursor.

One day my parents will find out about Kinky Island. I wish they'd be proud, too :P

Kweepa

How dare you relegate my idol Steve Meretzky to second place? >:(
Congrats!
Still waiting for Purity of the Surf II

The Ivy

Many more thank you's, AGSers. This was the first online forum I really got involved in, and now it's been almost four years. Thanks for supporting all my creative nonsense. :)

Well, I told them I won something, but then didn't elaborate. I avoided the subject for a day, and by the time I called home they'd already googled it. Let me tell you, this is the wrong century to be hiding things from your parents. :P

@Trent, that's actually one of the more normal cursors we had in our game concept. My favourite one was a background image of an incredibly nervous-looking dude and a cursor that was a pair of lips. The task was, "Make the first move!"

@Steve, I made sure to tell Mr. Meretzky that I downloaded "Leather Goddesses of Phobos" (and Frotz) while I was in high school. Then he thanked me for making him feel ancient, because the machines the game was designed to run on "had long since turned into silicon dust."

It's not so weird.  My parents google Erin twice-daily at least.

...I just wish they would pay attention to me...  :'(

If only you would be as cute and beautiful as Erin as, maybe they would... But think of it this way: YOU and only YOU inherited the ingenious name of "12". Isn't that something on its own?  ;D

Congrats Erin! A much deserved success. I only wish I was there, but maybe next year I'll make it (to be honest I'm just waiting until you become huge and then approach you  :P)

Again congrats! :D

Haha, so will we see a demo of an AGS adaption anytime soon?

Erin's First Time? :=
