I like the idea of this... a big ol' team project.

Yeh, could have some interesting results even if it doesnt wint the comp or even make it in.

Id love to start somthing like this, but my AGS skills are not the best and completely out of practice.
However i am up for attempting to organise a group of people, but really any organiser should really have alot of AGS skills and experience and be known around here.

I suggest You, Mods, Khris or InCreator :P

Questionable

The users could submit BGs, Sprites, the Story....

Hmmm, don't we have  abig story thing going on? Maybe we could recycle that. Haven't read it though.

A community project would be awesome, though!

What? Where? Team?
I'm in!

Characters, Animations, Backgrounds or trance'ish ambient hiphop/breakbeat music, I do.
But there must be a master scripter AND a storywriter aboard.

Escape the room game would be simple enough to actually make, too. If someone could give it a hardcore story, it would be spiced up enough to win.

Since Adventure Developers is adventure-stuff general, a team representing AGSers would be really cool.
Sorta like exhibition matches in sports.

Questionable

Okay, we'll the first question we need to ask is: "Who is our target audience?"

The first step ofdeciding a target audience is figuring out the age group we're working for. Do we want little kids to be able to try and play the game (and not be corrupted,) or is this a strictly grown up affair?

I'm going to say we should set a more mature tone and therefore design the game for a more mature audience, but again the story and art style are going to determine this, knowing our audience is simply going to allow us to tailor the game to them.

Then we need to decide the player type. Casual Gamer? Hardcore Adventure Fans? Grandmothers?
I think that because it would be entered into a compeition by and for Adventure Gamers, we should make the game for them.

So, my take; A game designed for experienced adventure gamers with a mature tone and audience in mind. This means a more emotionally involved narrative, more complex puzzles/conflicts, and most likely a more realistic setting.

How do you guys feel about what type of game the community should make?

I'd say we go for a classical third-person adventure of sorts, but with less "wacky" contents. I'd be more than happy to help where I can.

I'd say go hardcore. Escape-teH-room games and media overall tend to be... well, boring.

But remember the movie named Saw?
A room. Two men chained to pipes. Corpse in the middle. Mystery.

Wasn't this, well, brilliant?
Or the Cube? Again, simple idea making an ultimate sci-fi.

I don't mean gore here, but helping carebear find all the happy toys and get out of closet wouldn't be so interesting.
Anyway, it's up to storywriter to decide. Who will make story?

Since it's named "design contest", every technical aspect must be top-notch, I think. Probably two-button interface (I would hate LucasArtsy "confusing verb flood" or overused Sierra touch-look-say-go). But again, I wouldn't take responsibility to decide that. Simple GUI and interaction would set it to probably casual and not-so-oldschool gamers. Which - again, would be good, because people @ Adventuredevelopers aren't all same oldschoolers we have around here, and it would be nice to show "modern" gamers AGS too.

Right-click opens gui next to hotspot, object, character
Examine, Use/Activate, and OpenInventory actions available (talk if character);
Left click on floor walks EGO around;

I am using this with my current project, with the help of KrisMuk and others I got it working right.
I plan to release a demo in some days and I'll be very happy to provide the code.
Lots of people here can code better than me, so I am just offering my help.

I think that this community is in need of some confidance boost (threads like forums not like they...) and this are the projects that can make us stronger.

I will help if needed, but only if the main character wears pink speedos
Working on a RON game!!!!!

Id have to suggest it be somthing like "Demo Quest"

Showing off as much things as that can be done with the AGS engine as possible, and fitting it in a nice story line.

Demo quest? No. I don't like this.

I'd prefer to show that AGS is able to make an interesting and exciting game, not a bland tech demo. Even if it has a good storyline, stuffing random stuff for it just to be there wouldn't probably work, plus, has a big workload. And team things tend to fail usually, so it's better to keep it simple.

We DO have Demo quest already. Why make two?
...

Now come on, let's get this thing going! Who's ready to organize?
We had a thread about AGS buddies not long ago, it's time to PM and notify those buddies.
Come on!

OK. So we take a carebear, and chain him to a pipe and the only thing within reach is a seamripper...

Not a bad idea at all! How about a game about a group of dolls and teddy bears trying to escape from a demented toymaker? (self mutilation is optional)

Questionable

I think that's been done by some platformer style game...
All my trophies have disappeared... FINALLY! I'm free!

InCreator

Personally? Nah.
I'm not that good at drawing cute things. And have no interest in toy story, anyway.

Of course, if there was a story, and we could read it, and it was good...
