I made a bet, saying Germany would win. The attendant was Lena, playing her song, Satellite, and guess what, She won and I got drunk and made 5€!

I am not very pleased....

for the simple reason that the song SUCKS. And that now they will broadcast it everywhere about 30 times a day. HELP ME FOREIGNERS!

I only saw a small part of the grading process. I didn't even listen to a single song, because the quality of Eurovision music is horrible.

So I wondered, what kind of song earned first place with such a big grade difference? I looked it up on youtube expecting a life-changing experience, but instead I was given monotonous noise with no melody or whatsoever.

Germany's song had also been pre-released and had already become a "hit" single ::).

Eurovision is so influenced by current affairs it doesn't mean much to me. There were choruses of boos when anybody gave Russia points! :-\

And yes, it is pretty down-heartening not receiving points from your neighbours; when everybody else dishes them out like sweets. Apart from Ireland. :-*

Lordi's still touring in the US, I guess. They released their album there, made a movie and afaik never came back :S

I don't think the Eurovision has been about the best song for ages now. If it were, there'd be no winners because everyone has a different taste. It's mostly about the best ESC performance, something that would suit the concept, and at that, it's fun to watch. The worst thing you could do would be to take it too seriously. It's a eurovision contest, not a song contest anyway.

Plus she's bloody good looking, especially for a german.

I just hate how the UK always sends some kind of camp crap each year. I'm not homophobic, just I think we send people with songs that only gays, old women and 5 year olds would like. All a lot of cheese each year. I would rather have that welsh guy's Brian Adams song than that shite disco song. The eurovision is a good opportunity for an artist, but I think the UK just pisses about with it.

The only person in favour of the mobs seems to be IndieBoy.. but he's scottish so we dont listen to him anyway.

Nikolas

Can you imagine UK taking the contest seriously? They would send Blur, Oasis, Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys and the rest, winning every single bloody time! ;D

For some reason, the best they could come up with was ALW, who is a constant *ahem*...

I thought they were the main audience for this :P

Honestly, I never understood why people take this seriously. It's absolutely dreadful music. The only way to get any enjoyment out of it is to drink beer with freinds and critisize the awfulness. ;D

Huh? She looks like the average German school girl to me. The only thing that distinguishes her from those is her adorable fake British accent, and probably the choice of make up. And the fame, oh, the fame!
I, object.

Here's what really goes on behind the scenes:
Most, if not all of the countries, really don't want to win the competition, because the production of the competition next year takes a lot of money without any income, and without much fame, since the results are mostly ridiculed all around the world.
However, they also don't want to quit the competition because it would be terribly rude.

So, the only alternative is to send crappy songs and hope that someone will send a less crappy song than you so that you won't win...

And this will last forever and ever...

And for some reason I still watch the competition every now and again...
I actually watched it yesterday, and liked Belgium's song, but that was it!

Nikolas

Not every country sends crap songs. In fact a lot of Balkan countries and the 'new european' countries (greece as well) seem to be sending their best! :o

Tuomas

Greece sent their best? :D Man, you people crack me up there. The song was good too, all about forgetting the past and paying the depts and starting over. No messages, no sir. :D

For UK... They could make Muse play a new song there, but then, this is what parts Eurovision from the Grammys. You go for a Eurovision song, not for the best, otherwise we'd have Nightwish or HIM there, and everyone would rent awesome artist from all around. Thank god it's not like that.

I know some countries like Italy and Austria dropped out, protesting, that all the eastern  countries vote for each other. I think they just happen to like similar music. It's not like millions of people want to vote for their neighbour just for the sake of it :P

Seriously Nikolas, if you're serious on the quality of the greek song, I'll dance naked. :D
Worked on Strangeland, Primordia, Hob's Barrow, The Cat Lady, Mage's Initiation, Until I Have You, Downfall, Hunie Pop, and every game in the Wadjet Eye Games catalogue (porting)

I really liked that song in the YouTube video.

I'm talking about the artist, not the song! ;D Think about it. Rouvas, Elena Paparizou. These are not some unknown nobodies in the greek artist chart. They are the best artists... (in pop). That's what I'm saying. NOT talking about the song.

I liked the Belgian entry best. My kids loved the Greek "Opa!". Didn't think much of the German one, but its OK, even if she was trying make her voice sound like Bjork. The Danish one was a total Sting rip-off. UK was rubbish.

Oh, well then that makes sense, we did sent out our best, though this one, mehh. Nobody would stop laughing if I said like "Alkaios could partecipate in Eurovision" like a year ago. Now they all go "Such a great artist", but don't we all know he ain't? :D

Every eurovision there's at least one song Iike. Haven't found one on this Eurovision. >:(

Yeah, sure, but Rouvas, Paparizou, Anna Vissy... Come on... these people are considered top of the pop in Greece...
