Be your avatar!

Here's a question that I have not been able to answer: Why do people start "What do you look like" threads when users could put their mugs as avatars?

I've been to multiple messageboards, and they all have the same: "what do you look like", "Post your face here", "Noobs introduction and pic", "The long overdue post your picture here..."

Why not just make a small 60x60 jpg file of your picture. If you are too lazy, send me your image via e-mail and I'll create one for you using the image you sent. This way we don't always have to post threads like the ones mentioned above.

Post your thoughts here. If you like the idea PM me and I'll send my e-mail, (if you don't want to make it yourself.)

Just an idea.

Maybe cause the Avatar and the logo underneath are there for different reasons. You for example have a guy with a sword, I have my son there. If I had a website about my game, or about me that would be there too.

Babar

the word "mugs" confused me for a second...I had no idea what you were talking about. Are you offering to make avatars out of peoples pictures? There are no "What you look like" threads that I remember here, but there is a "post your picture" thread. I don't see anyone anxious to know what the other looks like, though...

I can answer that pretty easily, actually.
However, due to the fact that the answer is so obvious, I can't be bothered to post it.

PS: If reading stupid questions like this ever made me so dumb, that I'm no longer able to crop pics on my own, could I send them to you? ::)

Ubel

If people would want to put their pictures on their avatars, they probably would have done that already. Also those "Post your pic here" threads are a better choise because it's much nicer to look at people's pics in high resolution. The thing that confuses me is why are you suggesting things like this and still don't have your pic as avatar yourself. ;)

Actually, I'm looking for an image to crop and use. This is just an idea. (It may be a dumb one... but it is an idea.)  :P

My avatar is my face...  :(

But really, the reason people don't post their pictures as their avatars because 1. It's just too much work to go through that and put it into a tiny 60x60 and 2. because otis the supergoose and the hero from HQ/QFG are just that badass  :D

rharpe

There you go! Now you know who you're talking to. :)

I know many of you, (if not all of you,) hate the idea... oh well.
At least I did what I said I would do.  ;D

I think the reason that people don't put their face as an avatar is because thats not how they want to represent themselves on the forum. I associate people on forum with what their avatar/sig looks like and that is easily remembered. I think it would be kinda boring if everyone had their face as an avatar.

Those threads that you mentioned serve their pupose fine. Often (always?) there isn't enough space to show an interesting picture of yourself or other stuff in a 60x60 picture that would go into the post your picture thread.

I've been through a couple of avatars, including having me but I've stuck with this one now because I like it. Besides, you wouldn't want to see all the time would you? :P

I don't do it because, although I'm an asshole, I can be merciful.

Ishmael

On some forums I've used a picture of myself as an avatar, but I'm not sure have I ever done it here... Anyway, I have to go with the flow. the post your picture -thread is much better and cleaner than having everyones tiny pictures all around the board. As the avatar really isn't a "Put your picture here n00b!11!!" feature, rather it is an utility of choice for people to represent themselves.

And I need a better avatar. I don't like this one that much anymore.

I occasioanly have me as my avatar. But the idea about an avatar is it can be whatever you chose. So if people want to know what I look like there's probably some mittens photos floating around.

What is that word you just said??? I like it. Screw "avatar..." Commie dictionary writing bastards don't have any say in how I say my words.

No, seriously. I'm not poking fun of you. "Arvater" and "Arvatars" are two pretty cool words...

Bleack, no!  They're usually annoying.

As for my avatar, I probably won't ever have it as me.  Because I don't want to.

Andail

I have myself as my arvater.
But I can't say I've seen anything of what Rharpe's describing, and I have no idea where he got that from.

Ishmael

You know... I am not being my avatar. But my avatar is me... You better check that grammar and stuff.

I would agree about the picture in the avatar thingy, if this forum was full of hot, sexy momicitas and not a bunch of programmer types....

I think there is no such thing as an annoying looping avatar.
