Checkmate!: Another "Petals Around The Rose" type game

...And it's driving me crazy. I have been trying for the past half hour and still havn't figured it out.

Again it has something to do with the name, and it's not about chess.

It's driving me somewhat crazy too. I've had a couple of good theories but they haven't worked out. It's annoying, because after knowing Petals Around The Rose, you think, "Ahh, I'll be able to get THIS one quickly".

Yeah I know, It's so frustrating.  I thought I had worked it out before, but unfortunately it wasn't so.

Here's my hint:

IT IS NOT SIMPLE.

It is not like Petals around the rose, it is a proper math-ish algorithm, which is kind of disappointing (read: lame) really.

I just read the comments on the page and they pretty much said it isn't a complicated maths problem

What I'm really interested in is whether its a visual solution or, as SSH said (not that I'm doubting you) a number problem

I have no clue at all how this works, either. However, you can play around, testing theories by manually entering numbers into the fields below the dice, instead of randomly rolling. All I've figured out so far is that the order the dice are in does seem to matter.

Okay, I've figured the 6th dice out, and I have noticed a pattern, but... still no answer

I am SO close to getting this, I have a theory that works 80% of the time...

EDIT: Okay, getting closer, I -think-...

The 5th dice seems to indicate the right number when it's on 3, but will add 1 if it's 4, 2 if it's 5, etc...
The other four... At first, I thought it was the number of a certain dice (if not one) added to it's value... but that doesn't work all the time.
Then I thought, you take out any pairs of dice, and then add the non-pairs together... but that doesn't work all the time.

Okay, I have it now, and it's retarded. I hate being one of those people that bitches about puzzles they found hard, but... this had bugger all to do with the title. NOTHING! It wasn't like Petals Around the Rose at ALL, it was a completely different concept.

Start with the leftmost dice

Look at the dice to the left (if there is one) : if it is less than or the same as this dice, make that dice = 0
Look at the dice to the right (if there is one) : if it is less than or the same as this dice, make that dice = 0

Now move on to the next (non-zero) dice

So for 1 1 1 1 1:

1 1 1 1 1
1 0 1 1 1
1 0 1 0 1

Now, add up all the dice 1 + 1 + 1 = 3
Now, subtract 3   3-3 = 0

So 1 1 1 1 1 = 0

For 2 2 2 2 2:

2 2 2 2 2
2 0 2 2 2
2 0 2 0 2 summed = 6 -3 = 3

1 2 3 4 5
0 2 3 4 5
0 0 3 4 5
0 0 0 4 5
0 0 0 0 5 summed 5 -3 = 2

Hey, great game.
Great is especially the fact that I have absolutely no clue what's the game is about. Checkmate? where? What is a checkmate? What do I have to guess? I know chess, but dice...  :P

So it's like 2 puzzles to me.

...or - a great alchometer: If I get what's that dice thing is about, i'm definetly drunk! :D

Like mentioned, the name is important. Don't think of it as a chess-related term, but more of what the name would indicate :)

BTW, I solved it on my own. Took me about an hour :P
